For Sale: 1970 Dodge Challenger in Volo, Illinois

Vehicle Description

INTRODUCTION: Absolutely meticulous rotisserie restoration! Stunning factory colors, correct driveline, fender tag and correct hidden VINs. It is highly detailed throughout, like it was just finished this morning. The fit finishes and functions are outstanding. Why is the T/A so special? It was built for just one year as Dodge's street going Trans Am race car, with only 2,400 produced: 1,411 automatics and 989 four-speeds. It wasn't just a 340 with decals; it featured a unique heavy duty 340 Six Pack engine, Rallye suspension, quick ratio steering, front disc brakes, Sure-Grip rear end, and a distinctive side exit exhaust. The lightweight fiberglass hood with functional scoop and pins, staggered tires, pop up gas cap, blackout grille, stripes, and rear spoiler gave it one of the most aggressive looks of the muscle car era.

EXTERIOR: With its matte black scooped hood secured by racing pins, bold T/A graphics, front and rear spoilers, raised stance, and staggered tire sizes, it's one of the toughest looking cars of the muscle car era! This example takes it a step further with a restoration that's frankly better than when it left the factory. The body is absolutely pristine- laser straight from every angle with excellent panel fit and no rust, damage, or issues. It's refinished in its correct factory B5 Blue without a vinyl top, allowing the vibrant metallic paint to really stand out. The finish is laid out evenly, topped with a smooth, polished clear coat that has a deep, wet looking shine. It features the correct T/A striping, sport mirrors, racing-style fuel cap, and all new weatherstrips and seals. The chrome and trim have been replaced or restored, and both the windshield and rear glass are new. As with all Challenger T/As, it rides on larger rear tires than the fronts, giving it its unmistakable stance while providing clearance for the factory side exhaust.

INTERIOR: The pristine, bright blue interior truly makes the car stand out! The cabin has been brought back to near brand new condition, starting with bright blue carpet down on the floor and a center console with a slapstick shifter positioned between two freshly reupholstered bucket seats. The upholstery and cushions have been replaced, along with the door panels, side panels, trim, and dash pad, all restored to excellent condition. The headliner and visors are new, along with a new mirror and a working dome light. The instrument panel is in mint, factory stock condition, complete down to the original style AM radio. The steering wheel is in excellent shape, and the car is equipped with a full set of reproduction seat belts.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: This muscle motor is restored to show quality condition! At its heart is the correct T/A-spec 340, easily identified by the "340 T/A" casting right on the side of the block. This wasn't an ordinary 340- it was a unique, heavy duty version with a stronger block developed specifically for the Challenger T/A and AAR 'Cuda. Topped with the distinctive Six Pack induction system and fresh Ram Air air cleaner assembly. The attention to detail is exceptional. The engine is neatly painted orange, while the manifolds, valve covers, and every major component have been restored or replaced to like new condition. Even the reproduction spark plug wires, hoses, clamps, and factory style overspray has been faithfully recreated. It features power steering and power brakes, along with the correct Mopar radiator, fan shroud, and clutch fan. The horns are in place, the windshield washer squirters are hooked up, and the engine bay itself is beautifully painted. Completing the presentation are the original fender tag, professionally decoded, the Trans Am identification tag beside it, and the hidden VIN stampings on both the cowl and core support, all confirming the authenticity of this exceptional Challenger T/A.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It is absolutely like new and detailed to show quality standards. Under the trunk lid, inside the jamb, and throughout the compartment, it's finished in beautiful B5 Blue with a smooth, glossy clear coat. It's correct right down to the factory decal and features a new weatherstrip and trunk mat. Completing the package is a collapsible spare tire with a restored rim, the factory air bottle, along with a restored jack assembly. It's what I call clean and complete, with every detail in place just as it should be.

UNDERSIDE: The body was placed on a rotisserie, and the results are simply outstanding! The underbody is literally pristine, with laser straight floors, frame rails, and chassis finished in the same beautiful B5 Blue as the exterior. It honestly looks like it was just completed, it isn't even dusty underneath. The factory Rallye suspension has been completely rebuilt, along with the quick ratio steering box. The brake system has been fully restored with new lines, hoses, and emergency brake cables, featuring front disc and rear drum brakes. The entire fuel system, including the tank, has been replaced. It also retains the correct T/A side exit exhaust with the proper mufflers, brackets, and flared tips. Looking up at the drivetrain, the 340 Six Pack engine is spotless, backed by a correct 727 TorqueFlite automatic, a restored driveshaft, and the correct 3.91 Sure-Grip rear end. The attention to detail underneath is every bit as impressive as the rest of this exceptional Challenger.

SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and our reputation. Every vehicle goes through our service department where it is inspected, test driven, and we address the essentials before offering it for sale.

CONCLUSION: This Challenger T/A has created a real buzz since we've had it! We parked it outside for just one afternoon, and people couldn't stop talking about how beautiful it was. With its stunning restoration, rare one year only heritage, and unmistakable presence, this is one of those cars that leaves a lasting impression. If you want it, don't hesitate- it won't be here long.
