A beautiful example of a rare and sought after Studebaker. The Starlight coupe was designed by the famous Raymond Loewy and includes a very unique wrap around rear window design. Some would say that it's difficult to know if the car was coming or going! One thing for sure is that it provides no blind spots. The passenger compartment is almost completely glass. Such a unique and distinguished automobile. Built from 1947 to 1955, just 9,829 Champion Regal Starlight's for the 1949 model year.
This example was beautifully and correctly restored several years ago and has held up phenomenally well. The rich luster deep blue paint still shines with only very minor blemishes that are hardly noticeable. The chrome trim, including the bumpers and grille are in beautiful condition and presumably restored as well. A pair or period dual spotlights round out the look nicely. A body panels are straight, clean and rust free. A super clean undercarriage too.
The pinstripe cloth interior is exceptional. Hardly a flaw to be found. Nice door panels with correct alligator skin upper panels, carpeting, dash, ect are all excellent also. All the gauges work. The original AM radio does not.
Under the hood is a flatheads six that would have been standard on this car with the upgrade of a classic speed shop aluminum head and dual carburators from Edmonds. That's all mated to a smooth three speed manual transmission with a column mounted shifter. Yes, this car IS EQUIPPED WITH OVERDRIVE too. A huge plus.
Newer Coker Classic wide white wall tires. Fully serviced mechanicals , fluids, ect. This car has been used regularly for shows and Studebaker events in the southern New England area. A very turn key, fun car you can enjoy from the start. If you are looking for an inexpensive entry into the classic car hobby, you can't go wrong here. No projects. Just fun and enjoyment and just in time for the car show season.
