Offered for sale is this highly original 1968 Ford Mustang
GT/California Special, one of just 4,118 examples produced
exclusively at Ford's San Jose, California assembly plant. Inspired
by the styling cues of Carroll Shelby's legendary Mustangs, the
California Special combined GT performance with distinctive
appearance features, creating one of the most desirable
limited-production Mustangs of the muscle car era. Lovingly cared
for by its current owner and stored in a heated garage, this
example benefits from an older restoration that has been
exceptionally well maintained. The consignor describes the car as
overall Very Good, adding that it is dependable enough to drive
anywhere without hesitation. Power comes from Ford's legendary
289ci V8 engine, delivering the performance and unmistakable sound
that helped establish the Mustang as an American icon. According to
the consignor, the car has never experienced any mechanical issues,
drives as well as it looks, and all gauges are in proper working
order. The engine compartment presents exceptionally well,
featuring correctly finished hammered hinges and other
period-correct details that reflect the care this Mustang has
received over the years. The exterior retains the distinctive
California Special styling cues, including the white side stripes
and hood with embossed "Mustang" lettering, giving the car its
unmistakable appearance. Hood locks further enhance both its
authentic look and functionality. The older restoration continues
to present beautifully with strong overall cosmetics and
collector-quality appeal. Inside, the cabin is clean, comfortable,
and highly original. Features include bucket seats upholstered in
cloth, a center console, black carpeting with Mustang-logo floor
mats, an excellent headliner, rearview "Long Rear View" mirror, and
an aftermarket stereo system. The interior reflects the same
careful ownership evident throughout the rest of the vehicle.
Introduced for the 1968 model year, the Mustang GT/California
Special was a regional promotional model inspired by Shelby styling
and produced in limited numbers, making surviving examples highly
sought after today. With its combination of rarity, attractive
presentation, and V8 performance, the California Special continues
to enjoy strong collector interest among Mustang enthusiasts.
Well-preserved, highly original, and described by the consignor as
a dependable and enjoyable driver, this 1968 Ford Mustang
GT/California Special represents an outstanding opportunity for
serious pony car collectors or enthusiasts seeking one of Ford's
most distinctive limited-production Mustangs. TITLE STATUS:
