Offered for sale is this beautifully restored early-production
1964 Ford Mustang Convertible, one of the most desirable and
collectible examples of America's original pony car. Introduced to
tremendous fanfare at the 1964 New York World's Fair, the Mustang
became an instant sensation. Although officially sold as a 1965
model, these first-production cars have long been known as the
"1964" Mustangs and feature numerous components unique to the
earliest production run, making them especially sought after by
collectors. According to the data plate, this Mustang carries a 22F
build date, indicating production in June 1964, and its
DSOidentifies it as having been assembled at Ford's San Jose,
California plant. Finished in its correct Pagoda Green (Code B), a
color offered only on early-production Mustangs, the exterior is
complemented by a well-restored interior and outstanding overall
presentation. Power comes from the original-style 260ci V8, an
engine exclusive to the earliest 1964 production cars, paired with
a three-speed automatic transmission. Under the hood, the consignor
notes the presence of the correct factory generator, another
hallmark of these first-run Mustangs. Additional factory features
include the desirable Rally-Pac gauge cluster, rear horseshoe
bumperettes, and the dealer-installed Mustang hood ornament.
Wire-style wheel covers, a luggage rack, and center console further
enhance this convertible's period-correct appearance. Having spent
most of its life in warm, dry climates, the consignor describes the
body, frame, torque boxes, and original floors as being in
excellent condition, providing an exceptional foundation for this
high-quality restoration. Thoughtful upgrades completed by the
current caretaker improve drivability while preserving the car's
classic character. These include a period-correct air conditioning
system, oversized aluminum radiator, power steering, four-wheel
disc brakes hidden behind 15-inch factory-style wheels fitted with
Coker radial tires. Beautifully restored, tastefully upgraded, and
retaining the unique features that distinguish the earliest
Mustangs from later production examples, this exceptional 1964
Mustang Convertible represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of
the finest early pony cars available. Sold with a title.
