Offered for sale with No Reserve is this rare and highly capable
1990 Volkswagen Transporter Syncro Doka 4x4 Double Cab, a
military-spec Type 2/T3 crew cab originally commissioned for the
U.S. Air Force. Built by Volkswagen in partnership with Steyr-Puch,
this unique pickup spent much of its service life at Ramstein Air
Base in Rhineland, Germany before being imported to the United
States under previous ownership. The current owner acquired the
truck in 2020. Finished in Army Green over a gray interior, this
Syncro Doka is powered by Volkswagen's 2.1-liter water-cooled
flat-four engine with Bosch Digifantelectronic fuel injection,
paired with a 5-speed manual transmission featuring an ultra-low
"crawler" gear and Volkswagen's renowned Syncro all-wheel-drive
system. Factory locking front and rear differentials provide
exceptional off-road capability. The odometer currently shows
approximately 33,000 kilometers (about 20,000 miles), although
total mileage is unknown. The rugged three-door crew cab is
equipped with skid plates, dual mirrors, Euro-code halogen driving
lights, rear tow ball, trailer and charging hookups, and a sturdy
bed rack. The pickup bed features diamond-plate flooring, fold-down
bed sides, a lockable lower "treasure chest" storage compartment
with flip-up access doors, and a convenient slide-out tool drawer.
Inside, the cabin features replacement TriStar front bucket seats,
a removable glass partition behind the front seats, a rear bench
area with storage locker and tool drawer, black dashboard,
perforated white headliner, center console, rubber floor mats,
manually operated windows, an original Volkswagen stereo, and a
desirable Webasto auxiliary heater. Instrumentation includes a VDO
180 km/h speedometer, clock, fuel and coolant gauges, plus
additional Bosch VDO gauges that are currently disconnected. A
digital satellite speedometer has been added to display speed in
miles per hour. The tachometer operates intermittently, and the
original speedometer cable has been disconnected due to excessive
noise. Under the current ownership, extensive mechanical work has
been completed, including: Replacement of the engine head gaskets

Shield Note: With thoughtful packing, the complete parts package
should fit in the Doka's bed and rear cab for transport. The
consignor notes that the truck has significant corrosion in the
rear body panels, treasure chest doors, some window openings, body
seams, and portions of the suspension. However, the frame, pickup
bed, cab, doors, and interior floors remain in fair to good
condition. Replacement body panels and components remain available
through specialty suppliers, and a detailed parts schematic with
vendor information will accompany the vehicle. A rare military-spec
Syncro Doka with locking differentials, extensive recent mechanical
servicing, and exceptional utility, this Volkswagen offers a unique
opportunity for collectors, off-road enthusiasts, or anyone seeking
one of Volkswagen's most desirable Transporter variants. Sold with
registration.
