For Sale at Auction: 1955 Chevrolet Hearse in Owls Head, Maine

Vehicle Description

Offered for sale with No Reserve is this exceptionally well-preserved 1955 Chevrolet 3100 Series 2 "Heavy Half-Ton" Pickup. Showing just 57,960 original miles, this rare survivor is an honest, rust-free, and highly original truck that has been carefully preserved and enjoyed for decades. Registered as an Antique Vehicle, it has also successfully passed Maine state inspections in recent years. The current owner's father purchased the truck in Wyoming in 1988, and it remained in the dry western climates of Wyoming, Colorado, and Montana before being trailered to Maine in 2023. It has never been driven in inclement weather or exposed to the harsh conditions of a Maine winter, helping preserve its remarkably straight, solid, and rust-free body. Power comes from a dependable Chevrolet 400 cubic-inch V8 short-block engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission featuring the desirable low "granny" first gear. A Jeep 360 clutch assembly has been fitted for improved durability, while the remainder of the truck remains largely original. It retains its original 1955 owner's manual and even the original ignition key. The truck received a professional repaint and interior upholstery restoration during the 1990s in Grand Junction, Colorado. Finished in striking Corvette Red, the paint complements the truck's classic lines beautifully. The pickup bed still retains its original wooden floor beneath the protective rubber bed mat. Although driven sparingly over the past several decades, the truck has benefited from consistent maintenance and mechanical updates, including a new Duralast battery (2026); carburetor adjustment following its relocation from high altitude to sea level (2023); new radiator, water pump, alternator, and starter (2022); new heater core, turn signal assembly (with original assembly retained), and glass-pack mufflers (2016); and in 2015, a new fuel tank, fuel sender, fuel pump and fuel lines, rebuilt carburetor, new spark plugs, ignition rotor, points, condenser, ignition coil, ballast resistor, and brake master cylinder. The tires are older but remain serviceable considering the truck's limited use. Included with the sale is an extensive collection of documentation, an all-weather outdoor cover, an indoor dust cover, two "The Club" anti-theft devices, and several spare parts including a boxed U-joint, boxed vent handle, side mirror, and the original turn signal assembly. A wonderfully honest and well-preserved Advance Design Chevrolet pickup, this 1955 3100 is ready to be enjoyed as a dependable driver, displayed at shows, or added to any serious collection of classic American trucks.
