For Sale: 1964 Chevrolet Corvette in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1964 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

"We never boast about Corvette's seating capacity. Or its four doors. Or how many golf bags or suitcases fit into its trunk. That's for ordinary cars. The Corvette Sting Ray is a two seater sports car, one of a breed that puts performance first. Extras size and weight hamper performance. So Corvette leaves back seats and big trunks to family cars." From one of dozens of Corvette print ads released in 1964.

For consignment, a 1964 Chevrolet Corvette convertible showing 80,660 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a faulty odometer. Owned by our consignor since 2001, this Corvette was attained after years of searching for the "perfect one" and is a numbers matching example that has been garage kept during this ownership.

Exterior
This multi award winning car begins with a two stage Ermine White paint, complemented by the black canvas top when up, and the open air when down. This fantastic spec is also enriched by the 15-inch knock off wheels and dramatic slotted side exhaust covers. Twin faux vents are molded into the fenders and a pointed rise emerges from the hood, while in back, a gentle crease runs the center of the decklid and onto the cowl cover for the soft top. Finally, hidden headlights give the car its iconic, streamlined face, flanking the equally iconic crossed flag emblem on the nose. Brightwork, emblems and the chrome bumpers are in great shape. Imperfections are few and include a few chips, paint cracks, scratches, and some deplating on the rocker trim.

Interior
Swing open the doors to reveal a vertical pattern in black vinyl split by a chrome trim piece, then a smooth lower panel. All the black contrasts with the chrome window cranks, sliding knob for a door actuator, and two jet age reflectors and both doors present very well. Black vinyl low back buckets are flanking a center armrest which sits behind a chrome edged center console that houses the Hurst shifter with white ball knob, favoring the driver of course, and based in grain textured black plastic. In front of it, a side mounted AM/FM radio, various knobs and a central black faced clock. In front of the driver and passenger are two graceful cowls, one over the glovebox, and the other for the gauge cluster. Both have textured black plastic background which is clean, with the glovebox having a brushed aluminum door. There's a crack in the plastic rim of the steering wheel which otherwise presents nicely retaining the crossed flag center badge. Black carpet in the foot wells also is clean and protected by Corvette branded mats and the cargo area is fully finished and clean.

Drivetrain
Under the hood, the numbers matching 327ci V8, rated at 250 horsepower and fueled by an Edelbrock 4-barrel over and Edelbrock intake. It's backed by the numbers matching Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission routing power to the rear axle with 3.36 gears. The bay presents in clean, original condition.

Undercarriage
Generally clean underneath with some residual oil on the pans up front. Headers give way to side pipes underneath and drum brakes are found on all four wheels. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and half shafts, lateral struts, controls arms and transverse leaf spring on the independent rear.

Drive-Ability
The compact cabin serves as our stage to start the show, a push of the pedal and a turn of the key and the engine this car was born with starts up without issue as the sidepipes deliver a melodious, burbling tone. Good power, satisfying shifts, and great handling is observed. We note the heater blower, odometer, and trip odometer are not working. When the radio goes it only delivers a high pitched whining sound and we checked; it's not a Yoko Ono song. Meanwhile, all other functions operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Perfection can be both objective and subjective, and if you've been looking for a numbers matching classic Corvette convertible in white over black spec, this might just be your nirvana. It's absolutely a turn key opportunity for a very collectible car that you can fully enjoy.
