For Sale: 1963 Chevrolet Corvette in Newfield, New Jersey

Vehicle Description

The 1963 Chevrolet Corvette introduced a shape that would become one of the most celebrated designs in American automotive history, and the one-year-only split rear window made the inaugural Sting Ray Coupe instantly recognizable. This highly desirable 1963 Corvette Split-Window Coupe adds another level of significance with its numbers-matching, fuel-injected L84 327 V8, four-speed manual transmission, and documented delivery history.

Under the hood is the numbers-matching 327 cubic-inch L84 V8, factory rated at 360 horsepower and equipped with Rochester mechanical fuel injection. The L84 was the most powerful Corvette engine available for 1963 and remains one of the most coveted small-block combinations of the era. The engine stamping includes the vehicle's matching VIN sequence, while the RF suffix corresponds to the 360-horsepower, fuel-injected 327 intended for use with a manual transmission.

Power is delivered through a four-speed manual transmission and Positraction rear differential, giving this Corvette the engaging performance and direct driving experience enthusiasts expect from a high-specification early Sting Ray. Spark plugs, ignition points, and valve cover gaskets were replaced in 2025, helping maintain its strong-running mechanical presentation.

The fiberglass body was originally finished in Ermine White, Paint Code 936A, and was refinished under previous ownership in red. The red finish emphasizes the Corvette's sculpted fenders, concealed headlights, distinctive center spine, and unforgettable split rear glass. Dual exhaust outlets exit through the rear valance, one of the signature styling details of the 1963 Corvette.

Body-color 15-inch steel wheels wear three-eared knock-off spinner-style hubcaps and Goodyear 6.70-15 whitewall tires, giving the car an authentic early-C2 appearance. The 1963 Corvette was also the first production Corvette equipped with independent front and rear suspension. Its rear suspension uses a transverse leaf spring, creating more sophisticated handling than the solid-axle Corvettes that came before it. Braking is handled by four-wheel power-assisted drums, with the front wheel cylinders replaced in 2025.

Inside, the factory Trim Code 490L red vinyl interior features matching carpeting and door panels. The cockpit includes bucket seats, an AM/FM radio, a 160-mph speedometer, and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer displays approximately 53,000 miles, although total mileage is unknown. The clock is currently inoperative.

An NCRS Shipping Data Report accompanies the car and documents that it was originally delivered to McKeown-Phalin Chevrolet in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Documentation is particularly important with a Corvette of this caliber, and the included NCRS report, matching engine stamping, original trim information, and confirmed factory color help establish its history and specifications.

The 1963 Split-Window Coupe has always occupied a special position in Corvette history, but a genuine L84 fuel-injected example with a numbers-matching engine and four-speed manual transmission is considerably more desirable. Combining one-year-only styling, Rochester mechanical fuel injection, Positraction, documented dealer delivery, and one of Chevrolet's most legendary high-performance small-blocks, this Corvette offers exceptional collector appeal.
