The 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am marked the debut of the legendary second-generation F-body platform. Delayed until March 1970 due to tooling problems, it became an instant automotive icon by trading raw straight-line bulk for European-inspired aerodynamics and exceptional handling.Pontiac made the Trans Am its own distinct model for 1970 rather than an options package. Buyers only had two high-performance 400 cubic-inch (6.6L) V8 engine choices:- Ram Air III (Standard): Produced 345 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.
