For Sale: 1956 Pontiac Star Chief in Columbus, Ohio

Vehicle Description

$ 68,995

Cruisin Classics is proud and excited to present to you this drop-dead gorgeous 1956 Pontiac Star Chief convertible. The Star Chief was Pontiac's top-tier luxury model and that is obvious when you see the opulent styling of this stunning example. The front end of this car is loaded with mirror-finish chrome and it literally commands attention. The bulbous hood features two sets of chrome stripes with a large chrome jet-like ornament front and center and "Pontiac" script badging beneath. Making the whole thing even cooler is that the jet ornament illuminates when the lights are on. Round headlights flank the front of the hood and above them on the fenders are chrome accents that almost resemble eyebrows. The grille is a large open-mouth style chrome affair with an equally elaborate wrap-around chrome bumper beneath. As you start to move to the side of the car, the two-tone red and white paint job really grabs your eye. Bright red coats the hood, fender tops, and door tops, leaving the rest of the car covered in white. Body side molding separates the paint colors on the fenders and doors. Though we don't have any receipts from the car being painted, we do have a photo album showing it stripped to bare metal and then undergoing the painting process We believe, based on other restoration receipts, that it was painted between 2005-2010. The paint job was a very good one and the paint is still in high driver quality condition with minimal imperfections from use. Chrome abounds on the sides of the car as well, with bright windshield surround, window trim, dual chrome side mirrors, door handles, front and rear molding spears, rear wheel lip trim, and lower rear quarter trim. At the leading edge of the fenders are gold "V8" badges and on the red portion of the doors is "Star Chief" script badging. The white power-operated convertible top is crisp and clean with a clear plastic rear window and only a couple minor imperfections. The wheel and tire choice is a perfect fit for this ride - red steel wheels with Pontiac hubcaps all wrapped in new 15" Coker Classic white-wall radials. At the rear of the car, the distinctive tail-fins are definitely the focal point. The top of the fins have decorative chrome trim pieces with red stripes and on the rear are round taillights with chrome visors. The decklid sports three "star" badges and a "Pontiac" script badge. The chrome rear bumper mimics the one up front both in style and quality. Twin exhaust outlets wrapped in chrome are mounted just beneath the bumper. Take a quick peek under the rear to find a new gas tank and a very presentable undercarriage.

Lift the hood to find a very clean and organized engine bay with a glossy red firewall and gloss black painted inner fender wells and underside of the hood. Originally this car would have been built with a 316ci Strato-Streak V-8 but this Star Chief is now powered by a 1957 Pontiac 347ci V-8 (casting # 523283) - one year younger and a bit more powerful. The block, heads, valve covers, intake, and water pump are all painted green. Topping off the engine is a Rochester 4-Jet carburetor and an original-looking oil-bath style air cleaner with decals. Other notable highlights include power steering, a Harrison radiator, dual horns, and a 12-volt electrical system. The big V-8 is mated to a 3-speed Strato-Flight Hydramatic transmission that shifts smoothly. Stopping power is provided by power 4-wheel drum brakes.

Prepare to be impressed when you open the driver's door of this Pontiac! The red and white interior is simply beautiful - with many chrome accents and cool features to grab the eye. The door panels are a combination of red and white vinyl with bright trim, handles, and window cranks - all in excellent condition. The front and rear bench seats match the doors - dressed in red and white vinyl with buttons on the seat and stitched stars on the front seat backs. Underfoot is a nice red carpet kit topped off with red rubber Pontiac logo mats. Chrome windshield and window trim continues inside and adds to the classy look. Ahead of the driver is a marbled red steering wheel with a chrome horn ring and a centercap that features Chief Pontiac's head floating over a background of stars. The wheel is mounted on a red fixed column that also offers a shifter for the 3-speed automatic. The dash is painted red and white and it's got plenty of bright trim. Directly ahead of the driver is an arching 120mph speedometer that shows 6,283 non-actual miles. There are two bright-ringed dual gauges - one for battery & water, another for fuel and oil - that appear to work as they should. Under the speedometer are lever-style controls for the heat and fan. In the center of the dash is an original-looking AM radio (inop.) and a glovebox with working courtesy light. Ahead of the passenger on the dash is a speaker with "Pontiac" and "Star Chief" badging. Under the dash you'll the control for the working power convertible top with zip-out rear window. When the top is down, there is a nice white boot cover to put over it. Back in the trunk is a brown mat, a box with some parts, a full-size matching spare, and a set of chrome rear fender skirts. The fender skirts are in excellent condition, but the car would require thinner rear tires for them to fit. This Star Chief also comes with an album of photos documenting the painting process and a folder with quite a few receipts dating back to the early 2000's.

There are a ton of tri-five Chevy's out there, but it's rare to see one of these top-tier Star Chief convertibles - especially in this condition! This Pontiac is sure to get attention everywhere it goes - whether it's a car show, a night on the town, a drive in the country, or even just a trip around the block! The breath-taking styling of this car and it's excellent condition really set it apart from the rest of pack! Give our friendly staff a call today and don't miss out on the opportunity to own one of the coolest cars of the 1950's!
