For Sale at Auction: 1970 Lamborghini Espada in Carmel, California

Unveiled at the 1970 Brussels Motor Show, the Series II Espada refined Marcello Gandini's dramatic 1968 Bertone design. It retained the model's distinctive shooting brake silhouette while introducing a redesigned dashboard. Compression rose to 10.7:1, matching the Miura S, lifting output from 325 to 350 horsepower. Approximately 575 Series II Espadas were built between 1970 and 1972, making the model one of Lamborghini's seldom seen V12 grand tourers.

According to records held by the International Lamborghini Registry, chassis number 7897 was completed on 30 June 1970. It was originally finished in Argento Metallizzato (Metallic Silver) with Verde Scuro (Dark Green) leather and delivered new to V.P.M. (Voitures Paris Monceau) in Paris, France. The car was first registered on 21 January 1971 and later registered in Gironde in 1981.

In 1988, the Registry notes that the Espada traveled to Sant'Agata Bolognese for Lamborghini's 25th Anniversary celebrations. It joined roughly 150 other examples in the presence of Ferruccio Lamborghini, marking the debut of the Countach 25th Anniversary Edition. The car was purchased later that year by its next owner and registered in Seine-Maritime. Under their care, it received a full engine and transmission rebuild at Jacques Zuliani's workshop and was maintained thereafter by Daniel Thibault, a specialist who also serviced the owner's Miura SV. In May 2013, the Espada returned to Bologna and Sant'Agata for Lamborghini's 50th Anniversary celebrations and Concours.

The car was then acquired by its next steward through Osenat before heading to Germany by 2024 where it was purchased by its current owner in June 2025. Following their purchase, the car was imported to the United States, leaving Europe for the first time. The Espada is offered in its original color of Argento Metallizzato with a retrimmed Black leather interior and tan carpeting. With a well-documented history from new by the International Lamborghini Registry, chassis 7897 offers a compelling entry into the rarefied world of grand touring Lamborghinis.
