Facing financial uncertainty in the 1970s, Aston Martin answered with one of the most audacious luxury sedans ever produced: the Lagonda. Sporting a name reserved for Aston's most top-drawer models, the marque's flagship sedan combined futuristic, wedge-shaped styling and pioneering digital instrumentation with Newport Pagnell's signature hand-built exclusivity, and the Lagonda emerged as one of the most expensive and sophisticated sedans in the world at the time.

Out of the 645 Lagondas produced, this example is one of just 75 Series 3 Lagondas made. Built only for one year, all were equipped with Weber-Marelli fuel injection and an updated instrument display, and this example has been further specified with the three-speed automatic transmission. According to the included Aston Martin Heritage Trust Certificate, it is finished from the factory in special order Mercedes Cabernet Red; complemented by a Magnolia Connolly leather interior with Dark Red piping and Wilton wool carpeting edged in Onslow Dark Red.

This left-hand drive example was completed at Aston Martin Works on 5 June 1986 as a very early 1987 model per its chassis number. It was destined for the United States and was sold new through Newport Imports in Newport, California in May 1987. The car's long-term second owner, based first in Quebec and then in Michigan, maintained a diligent record of their top-of-the-line Aston, and the car now boasts a sizable binder of meticulously documented maintenance invoices from 1999 to 2014. It was almost exclusively maintained by Aston Martin Jaguar of Troy with regular services performed up until 2006. At this time, it was entrusted to the Guild of Automotive Restorers in Ontario, Canada for annual maintenance work that continued for the next six years. After acquiring the Lagonda in 2021, the consignor continued to service it meticulously through British marque specialists in Harrison City, Pennsylvania.

This 1987 Aston Martin Lagonda Series 3 is now accompanied by its owner's literature and a substantial binder of invoices totaling more than $54,000. Its exhaustive service record is further validated by its CARFAX Vehicle History Report, which shows mileage inconsistencies likely due to its time spent in Canada. The consigning Broad Arrow Car Specialist notes that the middle screen of its innovative dashboard is inoperative; a common issue with the Lagonda as the pioneer of the digital instrument age.
