Few companies have so thoroughly reshaped the modern collector car
landscape as Singer Vehicle Design. Since its founding in 2009, the
California firm has built its reputation around an unwavering
premise: begin each of its restorations with an air-cooled
964-generation Porsche 911 and, through collaboration with each
owner, create an individualized build informed by modern
engineering, advanced materials, and extraordinary craftsmanship.
Over time, Singer's portfolio expanded beyond its original Classic
services-now long sold out-to include all-wheel-drive restorations,
Targas, and the groundbreaking DLS services, each exploring a
different interpretation of the air-cooled 911.
Despite the company's continual evolution, Singer had never offered
a turbocharged restoration. That absence was hardly accidental.
Turbocharging represents an entirely different character for the
911, one built less around razor-sharp throttle response and revs
than effortless torque, long-legged performance, and the
unmistakable visual presence that has long distinguished Porsche's
flagship road cars. Bringing that personality into the Singer world
would require an entirely new restoration service.
Singer introduced Classic Turbo Services for the 964-generation
Porsche 911 in February 2022 before presenting the first completed
restoration at the Goodwood Festival of Speed that June. Like every
car commissioned through Singer, the process began with a Type 964
donor, though almost every aspect of the car was reconsidered.
Newly developed carbon-fiber bodywork paid unmistakable homage to
the Type 930 silhouette while refining its proportions and
integrating modern aerodynamic concepts. Familiar details remained,
yet virtually every surface served a purpose beyond appearance. The
distinctive rear-quarter "shark fin" gravel guard became a
functional intake feeding cool air to a newly developed
twin-turbocharged engine, while the iconic whale tail evolved
through extensive engineering, its stylistic reinterpretation
remaining immediately familiar.
Mechanical development proved equally comprehensive. At the heart
of Classic Turbo restorations sits a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged
evolution of the air-cooled Mezger flat-six, equipped with modern
turbocharger technology, air-to-water intercooling, and
contemporary engine management. Output debuted at 450 horsepower,
with higher-performance specifications available according to each
owner's vision. A six-speed manual transmission remains the sole
configuration, preserving the direct driver involvement expected of
every Singer restoration while delivering all power to the rear
wheels. The touring-oriented suspension can be adjusted to suit the
personality of the restoration, and an extensive range of bespoke
engineering solutions can be considered in collaboration with
Singer's Special Wishes team.
The introduction of the Classic Turbo services also broadened
Singer's philosophy in meaningful ways. Earlier restorations
frequently emphasized immediacy, lightweight construction, and
naturally aspirated character. Classic Turbo services-much like the
original Type 930 from 1975-embraced a different set of priorities
without abandoning the company's meticulous standards.
Long-distance touring, remarkable refinement, and everyday
usability became central priorities alongside outright performance.
Heated power-adjustable seats, air conditioning, navigation,
wireless charging, and bespoke luggage could coexist with
carbon-ceramic brakes, increased power, and more sporting
suspension calibrations. As always, each restoration reflected the
preferences of its owner rather than a prescribed
specification.
For founder Rob Dickinson, the project carried particular
significance. His earliest memories of Porsche centered on a
childhood ride in a ur-Turbo, an experience that inspired a
lifelong fascination with the marque and ultimately helped shape
the company he would establish decades later. Classic Turbo
services provided an opportunity to revisit the model that first
captured his imagination while applying everything Singer had
learned through years of development and collaboration with its
clients.
Following its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed,
Classic Turbo services immediately became the newest expression of
Singer's ever-expanding vision for the air-cooled Porsche 911.
Early restorations have remained closely held, with comparatively
few appearing on the public market. As one of the earliest vehicles
completed under the landmark Classic Turbo restoration services,
the vehicle offered here represents a special opportunity to
acquire a service that signaled a significant evolution for
Singer-one that introduced an entirely new dimension to its already
celebrated interpretation of the air-cooled 911.
The "Aurum Verde Commission," internally known as "CT0274," was
Singer's international tip of the spear in 2024. Selected in Nice
Green Metallic (also referred to as Palm Green Metallic) over a
Cognac leather interior with Pascha-style woven leather seat
inserts, it was featured in Top Gear and later tested for Evo by
journalist and racer Richard Meaden. Meaden was effusive in his
five-star review, praising everything from the fit and finish-"the
fit of this Palm Green Metallic car's carbon panels is unerringly
precise, with a paint finish that's glass smooth and swimming-pool
deep"-to its driving dynamics, describing the Classic Turbo
services as "one that effortlessly moulds to your mood and works
with whatever road you find yourself on." Ultimately, he concluded,
"this car has been developed and set up by people who know how a
great 911 should feel at and beyond its limit."
This, the very same car Meaden tested, features over $200,000 in
optional extras expected from a car of this caliber shown to a
worldwide audience in print and digital media. The starting point
for any restoration must be the exterior and interior colors,
chosen with input from Singer founder Rob Dickinson. The
Singer-supplied build sheet, on file and available for review,
records that CT0274 received numerous exterior and technical
options including Nose Lift, Brembo Brake Calipers in Deviating
Finish Pistachio with Carbon Ceramic Rotors, Full Vehicle Paint
Protection Film, RSR Fuchs-style Wheels with Black Centers, and an
Engine Bay Painted in Exterior Color.
If the exterior established Aurum Verde's identity, the interior
completed the vision. Swathed in Cognac leather from the Singer
Exclusive Turbo Leather Collection, the optional 8-Way Adjustable
Sport Seats, rear seats, and interior side panels feature a Bespoke
Pascha-style Weave of Cognac and Lance Watson Anthracite leather.
Natural Walnut serves as the Hard Accent Decor Trim on the interior
door grab handles, under door pocket trim, across the face of the
dashboard, and down the center console that houses a Walnut
six-speed shift knob. Satin Bronze Bright Trim highlights many
interior components, not least the Floating Gauges and Walnut
dashboard trim edges with Mood Lighting. A Premium Audio System and
Bone-colored Alcantara headlining round out the richly appointed
cockpit.
That same year, the Aurum Verde Commission traveled across Europe
visiting Singer's Global Partners. Much like the RUF Yellowbird
immortalized in the VHS classic Faszination some 37 years earlier,
Aurum Verde starred in Singer's Palm Green Meets the Green Hell
filmed at the Nrburgring while undertaking development work
supporting TV certification for Germany and other markets
recognizing the standard.
