Extensively restored Glas 1700 GT
Hans Glas GmbH from Dingolfing, Bavaria, originally started out with agricultural machinery and scooters, but built a reputation in the 1960s with technically advanced cars — the brand was the first in the world to introduce the timing-belt driven overhead camshaft. The Glas GT is the finest proof of this: a German coupe with an Italian heart, as the bodywork was designed by Pietro Frua, who gave the car the elegant proportions of a miniature Maserati. The 1700 GT forms the final chapter of the GT series: under the hood lies the 1.7-liter four-cylinder overhead camshaft engine, producing around 100 hp, coupled to a four-speed manual transmission. This is sufficient for lively performance in a lightweight body and handling that enthusiasts praise to this day. Furthermore, its rarity is remarkable: only 1,680 examples of the 1700 GT were built, making this coupe a true connoisseur's car. This specific example remained in the hands of the same owner for no less than 27 years, who clearly treated it with care. The car has been extensively restored and is therefore in very good condition.
The coupe is finished in a deep, warm green that beautifully highlights the lines designed by Frua: the long bonnet with its characteristic air intake, the flowing roofline running down to the truncated rear, and the fine chrome trim around the windows, sills, and bumpers. The polished alloy wheels with chrome hubcaps — featuring the Glas emblem — underscore the sporty character, while the round headlights and the fine grille with the gold brand logo give the nose an unmistakable sixties face. Inside, a tasteful brown interior awaits: seats with vertical pleats in cognac-colored material, matching door panels, and dark carpeting that keeps the overall look understated. The dashboard is finished in dark with a fine set of round gauges, flanked by a steering wheel with chrome spokes and the Bavarian Glas emblem in the center. The interplay between the green paintwork and the warm brown interior is a classic combination that gives this GT a timeless appeal.
