For Sale: 1966 Dodge Charger in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1966 Dodge Charger Hardtop

"The first Charger joined the Dodge lineup in 1966. Based on the midsize Coronet platform, the Charger included hidden headlamps, full length tail lamps and an interior that was state of the art with four bucket seats and optional front and rear consoles. Not to mention that the rear bucket seats folded down to create a cargo area. With options that packed plenty of power the new '66 Charger could be had with a 426 Hemi, although standard was the 318." Oldride.com

For consignment, a 1966 Dodge Charger hardtop with unknown miles due in part to a non calibrated odometer and PA mileage exemption. This one is equipped with some updated componentry and a Vintage Air HVAC system.

Exterior
The revolutionary shape of this car is covered in a two stage version of what presents as a period color, Lilac Poly and to highlight the sloping roof line, the roof, decklid and C-pillars are a shade darker than the body. With the color out of the way, let's take in not only the fantastic profile of the car, but the rear light panel that sweeps across the width and underscored by a straight, chrome bumper. The shoulders of the car create a cove that becomes fin-like in the back while going forward, it maintains a laser straight waistline to the very front. Here we have dual headlights in a striated grille with a big chin spoiler under the front bumper. Character lines that emulate vents are the rear quarters and we would see that feature again even as the Charger body evolved. 17" Hot Wheels Wheels carry 45 series ZR rated tires with an early 2023 date code. Imperfections include some bubbles, raised blotch like inclusions, evidence of filler on a fender and a hole on the underside, a gap issue at front fender and door, touched up chips, scratches, scuffs and small inclusions. Much of these things are not seen at a distance.

Interior
White vinyl surrounds carbon fiber applique on the door panels and electric window switches reside in the carbon insert. Black carpet lines the bottom of each and both doors present cleanly. White vinyl buckets occupy the front and yes, the back where the seats are split by the center console and fixed armrest. Behind the rear seats, a carpeted cargo area and so far, everything is clean and orderly. A three spoke steering wheel fronts a dash lined with Dakota Digital gauges that look right at home while the A/C panel and radio are located in the center. A clock takes a sporty position next to the chrome shifter in the center console which is also decorated with carbon fiber film over black carpet in nice condition. The white headliner also looks good as does the carpeted trunk. We note some bubbling on the inner decklid while we have it open.

Drivetrain
An impressive looking engine awaits and it's a very showy 361ci V8 with plenty of polished components, an aluminum radiator, MSD ignition and a Fast EFI injection system. It's mated to an A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission which routes power the 8 inch rear axle. The car has headers, power brakes, power steering and air conditioning.

Undercarriage
Clean and uniformly black underneath, the dual exhaust goes from the headers to an H-pipe, through MagnaFlow mufflers and out the back through heat wrapped tailpipes and chrome tips. A Master Power four wheel disc brake system is on board, and Hotchkis TVS suspension works with the torsion bars and leaf springs to improve overall handling.

Drive-Ability
A great sounding car that starts easily is a promising gem and as we hit the test loop, the car idles well but bogs when acceleration is applied and popping is heard through the intake. But it handles well and stops on a dime! We note the rear windows do not roll up and the passenger's headlight will not rotate closed. All other functions on this sleek lilac Charger work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Once the unsung heroes of the Charger world, the '66 and '67 Chargers are charging forward in the collectible market and don't last long here at the mall. Once the EFI is dialed in on this one, you'll have a well sorted, great looking car for show, and for sure!
