Long before extended-cab midsize pickups became commonplace, Dodge
offered buyers a truck that combined practical size, useful
passenger space, and distinctly American styling in the Dakota Club
Cab. This 1994 Dodge Dakota Club Cab Custom Pickup is a remarkably
well-kept, one-owner example showing only 68,448 original miles
since new. Loaded with options, accompanied by a clean CARFAX with
recorded service history, and recently fitted with a Jasper
replacement long block, it offers the unusual combination of
originality, documented maintenance, and dependable everyday
usability.
Power comes from Dodge's 3.9-liter V6 paired with an automatic
transmission featuring push-button overdrive. This rear-wheel-drive
Dakota runs and drives great, delivering the comfortable road
manners and manageable proportions that helped make these trucks so
popular when new. The most significant mechanical update occurred
in July 2021 at 67,168 miles, when Dewey Dodge Jeep in Ankeny, Iowa
replaced the engine with a Jasper long block under reference number
071278. With the truck now showing only 68,448 original miles, the
replacement engine has accumulated approximately 1,300 miles since
installation.
The engine replacement was part of an extensive round of documented
service that addressed far more than the long block itself. The
work included new spark plugs, a replacement thermostat, a water
pump and gasket, an air filter, and an oil and filter change. The
cooling system was flushed and refilled, while the brake fluid and
transmission fluid were also serviced. The vehicle was inspected
for engine, oil, and transmission fluid leaks, helping ensure the
truck was properly sorted after the major mechanical work.
Additional service included front brake pads and rotors, rear brake
components, rear wheel bearings or hubs, and further transmission
fluid service. This level of documented maintenance is especially
valuable on a nearly 70,000-mile pickup and demonstrates that the
previous owner was willing to invest in keeping the truck
dependable rather than simply addressing the minimum required
repairs. The clean CARFAX provides a recorded history going back
through the truck's life and complements its one-owner
background.
This Dakota was ordered with an impressive selection of comfort and
convenience equipment. Factory air conditioning has been converted
to or equipped with R134a refrigerant and blows cold, making the
truck comfortable during warm-weather driving. Power windows, power
door locks, power mirrors, cruise control, and a tilt steering
column add modern convenience, while the factory AM/FM/cassette
radio remains in place. The automatic transmission's push-button
overdrive makes highway cruising easy and relaxed.
The Club Cab interior provides additional space behind the front
seats while maintaining the compact dimensions that make the Dakota
so easy to drive. The cabin has been upgraded with leather seating
by Designs West, giving it a more luxurious presentation than the
typical midsize pickup of the period. The driver's seat shows minor
wear consistent with use, but the interior remains attractive
overall. Woodgrain dash panels add a custom touch, while the
overhead console incorporates additional lighting and a period
radar detector that reflects the truck's well-equipped, custom
personality.
The exterior has been dressed with numerous popular accessories
from the era, including a Lund sun visor, bodyside ground effects,
chrome front and rear bumpers, chrome bed rails, and a Protecta bed
liner. A Magnum Bug Shield provides another unmistakable 1990s
styling cue. ARE wheels wrapped in 245/60R15 tires give the truck a
wider, more planted stance. The tires retain excellent tread,
although their older date codes should be considered before
extended driving.
This Dakota shows great overall and has clearly benefited from
careful ownership, but it is not represented as a flawless show
truck. There are a few minor dents and exterior imperfections
visible in the accompanying photographs, along with the previously
noted wear on the driver's seat. These items are consistent with a
carefully used and preserved pickup rather than a freshly restored
example.
One-owner trucks with low original mileage, documented service
histories, and this level of equipment are becoming increasingly
difficult to find, particularly when they have remained clean and
largely intact for more than three decades. With only 68,448
original miles, a Jasper replacement long block with approximately
1,300 miles of use, cold factory air conditioning, a clean CARFAX,
and an extensive list of period options and accessories, this 1994
Dodge Dakota Club Cab Custom Pickup offers both nostalgic appeal
and practical usability. It is a distinctive, well-maintained
example that is ready for local shows, weekend drives, or regular
enjoyment by its next owner.
