For Sale: 1965 Chevrolet Corvette in Newfield, New Jersey

Vehicle Description

Few designs capture the excitement of the American sports car era as completely as the 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. With its sculpted bodywork, dramatic fender lines, and unmistakable C2 proportions, the second-generation Corvette remains one of the most recognizable collector cars ever produced. This example combines the timeless appearance of a Rally Red midyear Corvette with a carefully selected group of mechanical and comfort upgrades that make it considerably more enjoyable to drive.

Finished in its factory Paint Code UU Rally Red, the exterior has been refinished in a beautiful base coat/clear coat finish that highlights every curve of the Sting Ray body. The paint presents very well overall, with only a few minor flaws consistent with a car that has been driven and enjoyed. A matching Rally Red removable hardtop is included, allowing the car to take on the sleek profile of a coupe when desired, while the contrasting white soft top provides the classic open-air appearance that makes a Corvette convertible so appealing.

Power comes from a period 327 cubic-inch V8 carrying an RE prefix and an April 1964 date. Although it is not the Corvette's original engine, it is identified as the desirable 365-horsepower L76 configuration, providing the high-revving personality and responsive performance that enthusiasts associate with Chevrolet's legendary solid-lifter small-block. A K&N air cleaner has been added for improved airflow, while a MagnaFlow exhaust system with a crossover provides a deep, muscular tone without overwhelming the driving experience.

One of the most significant upgrades is the Tremec five-speed manual transmission, identified by number CCEX4255. The additional gear gives this Corvette a major advantage over a traditional four-speed car, allowing for relaxed highway cruising while preserving the hands-on experience that makes a manual-transmission C2 so rewarding to drive. The combination of small-block power and a modern five-speed makes this Corvette equally enjoyable on winding local roads or longer-distance trips.

Power steering makes low-speed maneuvering easier, while power brakes and upgraded four-wheel disc brakes provide a meaningful improvement in stopping performance and driver confidence. These updates give the car more modern road manners without taking away from the direct, mechanical character that defines a midyear Corvette.

The exterior presentation is completed by 17-inch American Racing wheels finished in black chrome and wrapped in 235/45R17 tires. The larger wheel and tire package gives the Corvette a more aggressive stance while maintaining a clean appearance that works well with the Rally Red finish. A faux wood-grain steering wheel provides another tasteful custom touch and complements the interior's classic sports car layout.

Inside, the car retains its factory Code 407 red color combination, but the seating has been upgraded to red leather with integrated headrests. The rich red cabin creates a striking monochromatic appearance against the Rally Red exterior and provides improved comfort for longer drives. A Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo with remote control offers modern entertainment, while the power antenna keeps the exterior presentation clean.

Air conditioning has also been installed, although the system will require service to the condenser and compressor before it is operational. Once addressed, it would add another valuable level of comfort to a Corvette that has already been upgraded with touring and regular enjoyment in mind.

This is not presented as a completely factory-original or concours-restored Corvette. Instead, it is an attractive and thoughtfully upgraded C2 built for an enthusiast who wants the appearance of an iconic midyear with improved braking, easier steering, a five-speed transmission, modern audio, and the versatility of both hard and soft tops. Its minor paint imperfections are shown in the accompanying photographs and do little to detract from the car's strong overall presentation.

With its factory Rally Red color combination, period 327 L76-style V8, Tremec five-speed transmission, upgraded four-wheel disc brakes, red leather interior, and included Rally Red hardtop, this 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible offers an excellent balance of classic appearance and modern drivability. It is a beautiful, well-equipped C2 that is ready for open-air cruises, local shows, and memorable miles on the road.
