March 1966 marked the production of the one-millionth Mustang, and Ford sold 607,568 of them that year alone, numbers that no competitor came close to matching. The 1966 model also holds the distinction of being the first Mustang built under federally mandated safety standards, arriving standard with front and rear seatbelts, a padded instrument panel, and emergency flashers at a time when those features were still optional on most American cars. This one is finished in dark grey metallic with black leather inside, and it has been built out with a 351 cubic inch Windsor V8 that gives it considerably more capability than it left the factory with. The 1966 coupe is the best-selling single Mustang model year of all time, and the combination of that production volume with the passage of nearly 60 years means that well-built, well-presented examples in darker, less common colors with upgraded drivetrains are exactly what the market responds to.
