For Sale: 1955 Chevrolet Nomad in Kentwood, Michigan

Vehicle Description

The Nomad started as a dream car. Chevrolet unveiled it at the 1954 General Motors Motorama at the Waldorf Astoria, borrowing its styling cues directly from the Corvette, and the crowd response was so enthusiastic that GM moved it into production essentially unchanged. When it arrived in showrooms in 1955, it was the most expensive Chevrolet model in the entire lineup aside from the Corvette itself, priced $210 higher than a four-door Bel Air wagon and $266 more than the convertible. Only 8,386 were built that first year. This one is finished in Crocus Yellow with black leather inside and a four-speed manual transmission, a specification that turns the Nomad from a stylish show piece into something genuinely exciting to drive.

Under the hood is the 265 cubic inch V8 backed by the four-speed manual. The 265 was the very first year of Chevrolet's small block V8 engine family, introduced for the 1955 model year and the foundation of an engine lineage that is still in production today in updated form. In the Nomad it produces enough power to make the car genuinely quick for a wagon, and the four-speed keeps the driver fully involved at every speed. Power brakes give you the stopping confidence to back it up. An Autometer street tach has been added along with SUN oil pressure, water temperature, and amp gauges, giving you a complete real-time read on everything the engine is doing without cluttering the dash.

The Nomad only ran three years in its original form, from 1955 through 1957, with a total production of just over 22,000 units across the entire run. A Crocus Yellow 1955 with the V8 and the four-speed is exactly the configuration that serious Nomad collectors recognize as one of the most desirable of the bunch.
