This 1937 Ford Tudor Slantback is not your average street rod. It is a high-end build with a ton of great features; TCI frame, fully independent suspension, fuel injection, overdrive, custom leather interior, air conditioning, Foose wheels, power steering, power disc brakes, and so much more! All in a road-ready car that represents one of Ford’s best designs from the era.
Showing just over 2,800 miles since completion, this Slantback sits on a TCI frame that is fully boxed for strength and powder coated for a durable finish. The steel body has a number of subtle custom touches including the trunk with hidden side hinges. Original features include removeable engine compartment side panels along with the twisting hood ornament hood release – nice! The car was painted Ford Orange Crush Pearl which looks fantastic and is nicely complemented by the grille and side vent surround trim. It is further enhanced by the Foose 17” chrome wheels with 215/50 front tires and 235/55 rears.
The engine is a Chevrolet 350ci with 4-bolt main bearing caps. Highlights include Brodix aluminum cylinder heads, an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, and Holley Sniper 2 electronic fuel injection. You will also find ceramic coated headers feeding a stainless steel dual exhaust. Behind the engine sits a 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission for easy highway driving. This delivers power to a C3 Corvette rear end, thus you have a fully independent rear suspension along with four-wheel power disc brakes. Up front is a Mustang II style setup with polished control arms, adjustable coilovers, and power rack and pinion steering. It’s a great combination of equipment that you won’t find on lesser builds.
The custom two-tone interior furthers the overall build quality. It starts with the seats which use a high-grade leather that is soft to the touch and as comfortable as it looks. There are also matching door panels and a complete headliner with overhead lights. A polished Ididit steering column is present along with vintage looking gauges from Classic Instruments. The Holley fuel injection touchscreen is mounted mid-dash but can be hidden if you prefer. A Kenwood digital stereo completes the dash layout. Additional features include dual electric wipers, a parking brake, and a third brake light for safety. It also has power windows that utilize the factory style handles as switches - nice! The original crank-out windshield was also retained. Finally, there is a Vintage Air a/c unit along with a heater to keep you comfortable at all times.
There are plenty of street rods that may appear similar to this one and cost a lot less. But look deeper and you’ll find that few of them can match this build and all its features. It’s an exceptional car that presents a tremendous combination of quality and equipment. If you are looking for something beyond the ordinary then you may have found your car.
