INTRODUCTION: I bet you've never seen this before! Sure, you've
seen plenty of '70 Chevelles, but chances are you've never seen one
in these factory colors. According to the cowl tag, that's exactly
how it was born. It's also been treated to a body off frame
restoration with serious performance upgrades. The 396 produces
approximately 550 horsepower, and the upgraded suspension and
Wilwood brakes give it the handling and stopping power to
match.
EXTERIOR: The factory Shadow Gray Metallic with the white vinyl top
is a beautiful color combination. The paint is laid out evenly and
the clear coat is polished like glass. The stripes are painted on
correctly and are smooth to the touch. The body is very straight
and clean, giving the car an excellent overall presence. The fresh
white vinyl top complements the paint perfectly. The smoked glass
has been replaced, and it appears the chrome, trim, weatherstrips,
and seals have all been renewed as well. It features bumper guards,
hood pins, and a functional cowl induction flapper door. Rolling on
18-inch wheels wrapped in performance tires, the Chevelle has an
aggressive stance that finishes off its muscular appearance.
INTERIOR: The factory red interior makes a high impact first
impression. Down on the floor are plush carpets with reproduction
floor mats and factory GM seat belts. The seats have been
recushioned, reupholstered, and fitted with new trim. The center
console looks good, the dash pad has been replaced, and Dakota
Digital gauges provide a modern touch. It also features a new
deluxe steering wheel on a tilt column, and a RetroSound stereo.
The headliner is excellent and complete with a working dome light,
shoulder belts, and clean visors. It's a great blend of factory
appearance and tasteful upgrades.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Open the hood and you'll immediately be
impressed by all the polished components. At the heart is a healthy
396 making approximately 550hp. It features polished Edelbrock
aluminum heads, a polished aluminum intake, a Comp cam, roller
rockers, and a large dual feed Holley carburetor with premium fuel
lines. It also has an MSD ignition with a billet distributor and
Flowmaster headers. The engine is beautifully dressed with
fabricated chrome valve covers and a billet Front Runner accessory
drive featuring billet brackets, serpentine pulleys, a polished
alternator, and billet power steering. A Hydroboost power brake
system with a chrome master cylinder provides excellent stopping
power. Keeping it all cool is a polished aluminum radiator with
dual electric fans, an overflow bottle, and an aluminum water pump.
The engine bay is painted very nicely, the hinges have been coated,
it has an overall excellent appearance.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid and in the jamb, it's
painted glossy like the exterior. The weatherstrip has been
replaced. Inside is clean, solid metal with a fresh spatter finish,
a gray carpeted mat, and the battery has been relocated to the
trunk for a cleaner look under the hood.
UNDERSIDE: During the restoration, the body was removed from the
frame, allowing the chassis to be completely rebuilt, detailed, and
upgraded. Up front, it features a Hotchkis performance suspension
with tubular control arms, adjustable coilover gas shocks, a larger
sway bar, and a completely rebuilt steering system. In back is a
performance four-link setup with solid lower control arms,
adjustable upper control arms, lowering springs, and adjustable gas
shocks for excellent handling. The brake system has been upgraded
with Wilwood drilled and slotted disc brakes at all four wheels. A
great sounding dual exhaust system features stainless pipes, an
X-pipe crossover, Flowmaster mufflers, and correct SS-style tips
exiting beneath the rear bumper. The fuel system has been replaced
and includes a polished fuel tank. Looking up at the drivetrain,
you'll find a Milodon high capacity oil pan, a high torque starter,
and a Turbo 400 automatic transmission fitted with an extra
capacity pan. A custom driveshaft connects to the rebuilt 12-bolt
positraction rear end, finished with a heavy duty aluminum girdle
cover. The chassis and suspension components are clean and finished
in satin black, while the floors are exceptionally solid and
protected with a neatly applied black chip guard coating.

CONCLUSION: This is one healthy Chevelle that's guaranteed to put a
big smile on your face every time you drive it! The performance is
as exciting as the looks, and this rare factory color combination
is sure to draw attention wherever it goes. If I spotted it at a
car show, I'd have to stop and admire it. If it speaks to you,
don't wait- there won't be another one like it!
