Description:
This 1978 Chevrolet Corvette is one of approximately 6,502 Pace Car Edition examples produced to commemorate the model's use as the pace car for the 1978 running of the Indianapolis 500. Delivered new to Beaupre and Sons Chevrolet of St. Anne, Illinois, the car is powered by a 350ci L82 V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission and is finished in Black and Silver over Silver leather. The car is equipped with a Positraction differential, 15? eight-slot alloy wheels, air conditioning, power windows, and a factory AM/FM radio with an eight-track player.

Interior:
The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer. A clock along with gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level are located in the center stack. The bucket seats are trimmed in Silver leather and are accompanied by a color-matching dash, center console, door panels, and carpeting.

Exterior:
The 1978 Corvette featured a revised fastback roofline with wraparound rear glass, and all Pace Car examples were finished in two-tone black and silver with a red stripe below the blend line. Exterior equipment includes pop-up headlights, side marker lights, fender air vents, and quad taillights. The 15? eight-slot alloy wheels are mounted with 255/60 Goodyear Eagle GT+4 white-letter tires.

Drivetrain:
The 350ci L82 V8 is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and an aluminum intake manifold and was factory rated at 220 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a Positraction differential.
