Few automobiles can claim to have changed the course of automotive
history quite like the 1964 Pontiac GTO. Widely recognized as the
car that ignited the American muscle car movement, the GTO combined
midsize practicality with full-size V8 performance, creating a
formula that would forever reshape Detroit. Today, finding an
authentic, highly original example is becoming increasingly
difficult especially one that drives as impressively as it
presents.
LaFontaine Classic Cars is proud to offer this beautifully restored
1964 Pontiac GTO Convertible, finished in its factory-correct
Silvermist Gray over a black bucket seat interior with a black
power convertible top. This is an exceptionally honest GTO that
retains its original factory sheet metal throughout the body,
trunk, and undercarriage, a testament to its life as a
California-owned automobile. The quality of the restoration is
evident from every angle, with excellent paint, crisp body lines,
and an undercarriage that displays the original spot welds and
factory construction enthusiasts hope to find in an unrestored
body.
Under the hood sits Pontiac's legendary 389 cubic-inch V8, topped
with a factory 4-barrel carburetor and producing 325 horsepower.
Power is delivered through the original 2-speed automatic
transmission to the desirable 3.23 Safe-T-Track rear axle, creating
a driving experience that is smooth, effortless, and unmistakably
Pontiac. Equipped with power steering and power-assisted brakes,
this GTO is remarkably easy to drive and, quite simply, drives
every bit as good as it looks.
Inside, the cabin is equally impressive, featuring factory bucket
seats, a center console, optional instrument gauge package, AM
radio, and one of the most desirable options available on a 1964
GTO, the one-year-only Deluxe Wood Steering Wheel, an incredibly
rare feature unique to the inaugural model year. Every detail
reflects a careful restoration while preserving the authentic
appearance that collectors appreciate.
The black power convertible top is in excellent condition,
operating smoothly with a tight-fitting frame and a crystal-clear
rear window. Completing the exterior is the correct driver-side
outside mirror, another detail unique to the 1964 model year that
highlights the car's authenticity.
Whether you're looking to own the car that launched the muscle car
era or simply searching for one of the finest driving 1964 GTO
Convertibles available today, this beautifully restored example
offers the originality, correctness, and road manners that set it
apart. It is an opportunity to own a true American icon presented
the way enthusiasts hope to find one honest, highly original, and
ready to be enjoyed.
