1957 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Safari 2-Door Wagon Project – Rare Tri-Power & Intact Glass

Description:  Up for sale is an incredible, highly sought-after foundation for a world-class restoration or high-end restomod. This 1957 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Safari 2-door wagon is 1 of only 1,292 produced. This frame- off project features numerous upgrades to the engine and suspension systems, yet retains its original and most irreplaceable factory components, making it an exceptionally rare find for any serious collector or builder. 

Drivetrain/Suspension

• Rebuilt 400 CI Pontiac GTO motor with GM TH400 transmission. 
• Original 347 cubic-inch Pontiac V8 with highly coveted factory Tri-Power setup (three 2-barrel carburetors) and Strato-Flight Hydra-Matic automatic transmission are available and were in working order when removed from vehicle, but likely need rebuilding.
• Frame-off restoration, rust removal and frame boxing
• Front disk brakes with Wilwood proportional MC, coil overs, rack and pinion steering
• Four link/coil over rear suspension

The Glass & Body:

• Rear Panoramic Glass: The irreplaceable, model-specific three-piece wraparound rear glass is intact, crack-free, and in excellent condition.
• Side & Windshield Glass: Are either original or have been replaced.  Front windshield needs to be removed to insert chrome trim pieces
• Body & Chassis: Body was stripped to bare metal and needed minimal body work.  Primer and repainted in Ice Blue metallic over GM Platinum Ice. Floors had typical mid-century rust (e.g., driver floor pan) but the main structural pillars, roofline, and tailgate areas are solid.

Parts & Trim Inventory:

• Includes the unique Safari-specific exterior chrome trim, including the iconic missile-shaped side trim and chrome stars.
• Original interior seat covers, pieces, dashboard, and front/rear seats are included.
• Most all parts/trim are organized, boxed, and labeled for the next builder.
