Zoom Classic Cars proudly presents this striking 1965 Ford Mustang
Convertible Shelby GT350 Tribute, a very well-executed homage to
one of the rarest and most desirable Mustangs ever built. While
Shelby American produced thousands of GT350 fastbacks, authentic
1965 Shelby convertibles were never offered to the public, with
only a handful of experimental and prototype cars existing. Their
rarity and legendary status have inspired Mustang enthusiasts for
decades to recreate the look, performance, and spirit of these
unobtainable cars, resulting in some truly great tribute builds
like the one offered here. This Mustang began life as a genuine
Caspian Blue (Code H) convertible built on April 30, 1965,
originally equipped with a 289ci C-Code 2-barrel V8, C4 automatic
transmission, 2.80 rear axle and a White Vinyl with Blue Standard
Bucket Seat interior. During an extensive restoration and
transformation in the late 1980s to early 1990s, the car was
stripped to bare metal while retaining its exceptionally solid,
rust-free body before being professionally refinished in iconic
Wimbledon White with Black GT racing stripes. Today, the paint
continues to present nicely with a decent shine and only minor
imperfections consistent with its age as pictured. The body remains
very straight with excellent panel fit throughout, while the
chrome, trim, GT emblems, and bumpers are all intact and in
excellent overall condition.Under the hood, the original 289 has
been tastefully upgraded with a Carter AFB 4-barrel carburetor,
aluminum intake manifold, Cobra finned valve covers, Cobra oil pan,
chrome air cleaner assembly, and a Shelby-style chrome Monte Carlo
stabilizer bar, giving the engine compartment an authentic
period-correct Shelby appearance. The drivetrain has also been
enhanced with a replacement 4-speed manual transmission fitted with
a Hurst shifter, making this Mustang a far more engaging driver's
car. An aftermarket Ford air conditioning system has also been
installed and will require servicing to become operational. The
exterior captures the unmistakable Shelby personality with a
functional-looking hood scoop, GT badging, yellow driving lamps,
rear valance GT exhaust outlets, and desirable 14-inch Shelby-style
10-spoke alloy wheels featuring gray recessed centers, polished
lips, and tapered spokes. The wheels remain in excellent condition
and are wrapped in Dunlop HR GT Qualifier raised white-letter
tires, completing the period performance appearance.Inside, the
cabin has been converted to a beautiful black vinyl Pony interior
that remains in excellent condition. Features include a classic
wood-rim Mustang steering wheel, Shelby-style roll bar, GT racing
seat belts, and an aftermarket center-mounted Rally Pac with
functioning tachometer and oil pressure gauges. All of the
vehicle's gauges, including the Rally Pac instruments, are
functioning as they should, with the exception of the odometer,
which is currently inoperative. The black power convertible top is
in excellent condition, operates properly, and is accompanied by
the matching convertible boot for a clean appearance when lowered.
The trunk compartment is very clean and solid, professionally
lined, and includes a full-size spare. Underneath, the car presents
a clean and solid undercarriage that appears to have been
undercoated for long-term preservation and features dual exhaust
exiting through correct GT-style rear valance tips. The current
Massachusetts owner acquired the car in 2023 and has enjoyed it
sparingly. It is evident that the previous owner invested
considerable time, effort, and expense into creating this faithful
Shelby tribute using primarily OEM Mustang components while
maintaining the integrity of the original car. Today it starts
easily, runs strong, shifts smoothly through the gears, and
delivers the spirited driving experience that has made the
first-generation Mustang one of America's most beloved classics.
Included with the sale are a clean Massachusetts title, the
**original owner's manual and a comprehensive binder documenting
the restoration and Shelby tribute conversion, providing excellent
history for the next caretaker. If you've always admired the
legendary Shelby convertibles but appreciate the opportunity to own
and enjoy a beautifully executed tribute at a fraction of the cost,
this 1965 Mustang represents an outstanding opportunity. It offers
the unmistakable Shelby look, open-air driving enjoyment, and
classic small-block V8 performance in a package built to be driven
and admired. Call Jeff today for additional information or to
