For Sale: 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback in Sonoma, California

Vehicle Description

1967 Ford Mustang Fastback
California Car, 351 Windsor/4-Speed

1967 Ford Mustang Fastback for sale. This California car was sold new equipped with a 289 cubic-inch V8, four-speed manual transmission, Acapulco Blue paint, and a black standard interior. Over the years, it was thoughtfully transformed into the driver-focused restomod offered here, now powered by a rebuilt 351 Windsor V8 with numerous performance and drivability upgrades.

The restoration began under the previous owner in 2004. During that ownership, a rebuilt 351 Windsor engine was installed, and the project progressed through significant mechanical and cosmetic work. Ownership later transferred to the current owners, who continued and completed the restoration. The accompanying receipts document much of the work performed, including body and paint materials, replacement sheet metal, glass installation, driveline work, custom exhaust fabrication, and numerous Mustang-specific restoration parts.

Power comes from a rebuilt 1969 Ford 351 Windsor (5.8L) V8. Internal engine specifications are unknown, though it delivers strong performance and excellent street manners. Switched electric cooling fans provide additional cooling. The original four-speed manual transmission, equipped with a Hurst shifter, shifts smoothly through all four forward gears and reverse, engages positively, and retains a partial VIN stamping corresponding to the vehicle's factory VIN. Power is delivered through a Ford 9-inch rear axle. The housing is clean and solid, with no obvious leaks noted during our inspection, and the differential operates quietly with no unusual noises or vibrations, contributing to the car's smooth and confidence-inspiring driving manners. The suspension has been upgraded with tubular front control arms, front and rear sway bars, and KYB Gas-a-Just shocks. Braking is handled by power-assisted front disc brakes with a new power brake booster and rear drum brakes, providing strong, predictable stopping power. The car is equipped with an aftermarket dual exhaust system featuring tubular headers, an H-pipe, performance mufflers, and polished exhaust tips. It produces a deep, healthy V8 exhaust note while remaining comfortable for normal driving.

The paint presents well and appears to be a single-stage finish. The exterior trim, glass, and lenses are all in good condition, and the car has an aggressive, well-balanced stance. It rides on 17-inch American Racing-style five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in Nexen N3000 performance radial tires measuring 245/45ZR17. The tires carry 2006 date codes and, despite their good cosmetic appearance and remaining tread depth, should be replaced due to their age. The wheels present very well with only light cosmetic wear consistent with normal use. The front tires are slightly too wide and rub during tight turns.

The cabin is finished in black and features high-back Mustang bucket seats upholstered in black vinyl, complemented by a matching rear fold-down seat, black carpeting, black headliner, and coordinated door panels. The seats remain in very nice condition with only light, age-appropriate wear, while the carpeting and headliner present well throughout. Ahead of the driver is an aftermarket three-spoke steering wheel and a column-mounted Summit Racing tachometer with shift light. The factory instrument cluster remains in place, supplemented by auxiliary digital gauges discreetly mounted beneath the dash to monitor engine functions. (Please note the digital temp gauge misreading and will be addressed prior to delivery).  A Hurst shifter rises through the center console, reinforcing the car's performance-oriented character, while a retro-style digital stereo provides modern audio without looking out of place. The fold-down rear seat and cargo area are clean and nicely finished, offering the versatility that has always made Fastbacks so desirable. Overall, the interior is tidy, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped for enthusiasts who appreciate a classic Mustang with tasteful upgrades designed to be driven and enjoyed.

The trunk is clean, solid, and rust-free. It presents well but currently requires a prop rod, as the trunk springs are weak. Underneath, the floors show evidence of older, localized patch repairs in the lower footwell areas. The repairs appear to have successfully halted any further deterioration and are suitable for continued use, though a future owner may wish to address them during a future cosmetic restoration if desired.

Overall, this is an honest, well-sorted California Fastback that blends classic Mustang styling with tasteful performance upgrades. It starts easily, runs strong, drives confidently, and offers an enjoyable combination of vintage character and modern drivability that makes it equally at home on weekend cruises, local shows, or spirited back-road drives.
