Among Alfa Romeo's greatest prewar achievements, the 6C 2500
occupies a special place. Developed from Vittorio Jano's legendary
six-cylinder lineage, the 6C 2500 combined advanced engineering,
robust performance, and exceptional versatility. In Super Sport
specification, the model formed the basis for some of the most
capable sporting and competition Alfas of the late 1930s and
immediate postwar period, earning success in events ranging from
the Mille Miglia to the Targa Florio while helping establish Alfa
Romeo's reputation as one of Europe's premier sporting marques.
Offered here is chassis 915075, an evocative Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 'SS
Spyder Corsa' that pays tribute to Alfa Romeo's legendary
competition cars of the late 1930s and early postwar era. While the
car's early history remains incompletely documented, Alfa Romeo
historian John DeBoer notes that the chassis resurfaced in
Argentina during the 1980s before being acquired and subsequently
bodied by renowned Argentine craftsman Jorge Carril during the
1990s.
Carril's work drew inspiration from Alfa Romeo's celebrated Tipo
256 sports racers, resulting in a dramatic open competition body
that captures the character of the factory's great racing machines.
Executed with exceptional attention, the coachwork successfully
evokes one of Alfa Romeo's most charismatic competition cars
without resorting to excess or caricature.
The presentation of the 6C is highlighted by its rich dark maroon
that still wears its rally livery and particularly striking in
profile. Inside, the sparse cockpit remains faithful to the
sporting character of the design, placing emphasis on driving
enjoyment rather than luxury.
Power comes from an Alfa Romeo six-cylinder engine numbered
M923879, fed by a trio of carburetors that provide strong
performance and a wonderfully sporting induction note. From the
robust six-cylinder engine to lightweight open coachwork, the
resulting driving experience feels every bit as engaging as its
appearance suggests.
Importantly, this Alfa is far more than a static showpiece but
rather a highly maintained rally machine. Under long-term
enthusiast ownership, it has proven itself on many of North
America's premier touring events, including the Colorado Grand and
Copperstate 1000.
Presenting in a rich dark maroon livery that beautifully highlights
the flowing lines of the coachwork. Combining genuine Alfa Romeo 6C
underpinnings, striking Tipo 256-inspired bodywork, and proven
long-distance touring capability, it offers a uniquely compelling
opportunity for the enthusiast who values driving enjoyment as much
as visual drama. Equally at home on vintage rallies, touring
events, or winding back roads, this is a sporting Alfa Romeo built
to be used and enjoyed.
Offers welcome and trades considered.
