1942 Harley-Davidson WLA now available at Gulf Coast Exotic
Auto.
Gulf Coast Exotic Auto is proud to offer this historic 1942
Harley-Davidson WLA, an ex-military motorcycle that was
civilianized after World War II and remained the foundation of the
renowned **Mike Quinn Harley-Davidson Collection** for more than 50
years.
Powered by the legendary 45ci flathead V-twin paired with a
hand-shifted three-speed transmission, this WLA delivers an
authentic vintage riding experience. Finished in black with chrome
accents, it features a black hardtail frame, springer front fork,
Buddy Seat, valanced fenders, chrome engine and rear guards,
half-moon footboards, and a classic fishtail exhaust.
Additional equipment includes 16-inch wire-spoke wheels, a Linkert
M51 carburetor, chrome cat-eye tank console, steering damper,
tombstone taillight, and both side and rear-wheel stands. The
five-digit odometer shows 27 miles, although true mileage is
unknown.
Mechanically, the motorcycle has recently been serviced with fresh
engine and transmission oil, a cleaned carburetor, flushed fuel
tank, new fuel petcock, and a new battery, making it ready for its
next caretaker.
Harley-Davidson WLA models built during the war carry unique engine
numbers beginning with "42", regardless of their actual production
date. This motorcycle's engine number, 42WLA5478, identifies it as
an early Type I 1942 WLA produced between September 1 and December
10, 1941, making it an especially desirable example for
collectors.
Whether you're adding to a military motorcycle collection or
looking for one of Harley-Davidson's most iconic wartime models,
this WLA represents an exceptional opportunity.
