For Sale: 1968 Ford Mustang in Parker, Colorado

Vehicle Description

1968 Mustang Convertible, 347 Stroker, 5-speed, 4-wheel disc brakes, power steering, 3,500 estimated miles on the engine.

Growing up, my parents owned a 1965 Fastback Mustang. My dad taught me how to drive in that car, and those are still some of my favorite memories. Years later, I wanted to create those same memories with my own family.

In 2012, I purchased this 1968 Mustang Convertible with one goal in mind: teaching my 14-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter how to drive. I wanted the car to be exciting—with more power and a manual transmission—but above everything else, I wanted it to be safe.

I'm not someone who enjoys wrenching on cars, so I took a different approach. Rather than doing the work myself, I invested in having the car professionally upgraded over several years. I started with the parts you can't always see but matter the most: the suspension, steering, brakes, and chassis. Once I knew the car was solid and safe, I moved on to improving the performance and driving experience.

Here are the major upgrades:

Suspension & Steering

  • Completely rebuilt front and rear suspension
  • Performance front coil springs
  • Borgeson power steering conversion
  • New center link, pitman arm, idler arm, tie rods, strut rods, upper and lower control arms, sway bar links, wheel bearings and seals, bushings, spring seats, and spring insulators

Brakes

  • Front and rear disc brake conversion
  • Hydroboost braking system

The braking performance is outstanding—this car stops with confidence.

Drivetrain

  • Ford 8.8-inch rear end
  • Convertible subframe connectors for added chassis rigidity
  • Automatic transmission professionally converted to a 5-speed manual

Engine

  • Ford Racing 347 Stroker crate engine installed in 2017
  • Approximately 380 horsepower (dyno tested)
  • Engine torque chain installed to help protect the frame

The car has plenty of power while remaining very streetable. It sounds incredible and is an absolute blast to drive.

Wheels & Tires

  • 15x7 American Racing VN105 Torq-Thrust D wheels
  • BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires:
    • Front: P225/60R15
    • Rear: P235/60R15

Exterior

  • GT-style dual exhaust with rolled-edge tips
  • GT rear valance
  • Upgraded grille with integrated fog lamps
  • Front spoiler

Interior

  • Instrument cluster upgraded to include a tachometer
  • 14-inch wood steering wheel
  • RetroSound Bluetooth stereo with kick-panel speakers
  • Original dash with no cracks
  • Original center console
  • Original carpet showing some staining and sun fading
  • Passenger seat belt needs a replacement blue plastic cover, though it functions properly
  • Vinyl seats remain in very nice condition

Imperfections: The car has not been repainted since I purchased it. I'd rather be upfront about its condition than hide anything. There is some minor overspray near one taillight and a small paint bubble on the passenger-side rear quarter panel. The convertible top appears to be original and is in good overall condition with some staining from age. The rear plastic window has a split that should be resealed.

  • There is a paint bubble on the rear passenger side quarter panel
  • There is a crack in the rear plastic split window
  • The top looks to be the original, it has faded and some stains show
  • Center console has a crack
  • Carpet is faded in some areas by the Sun. there are brown stains near the drivers & passenger side doors. Photos attached

This Mustang accomplished exactly what I hoped it would. It became the car where my son and daughter learned to drive a manual transmission, just as I had learned years earlier in my dad's Mustang. Some of my favorite memories are driving the back roads and neighborhoods together, teaching them how to work the clutch and watching their confidence grow.

Over the years, we also enjoyed taking it to local car shows around Parker and Castle Rock, Colorado. Because I've never really enjoyed driving classic cars on the highway, it's mostly been used for local drives—to the grocery store, the gym, or simply out for a sunny evening cruise.

The Ford Racing engine has less than 4,000 miles on it, and the car has seen very little use over the past three years.

I've invested a great deal of time, money, and care into making this Mustang a fun, reliable, and confidence-inspiring classic to drive. It has been much more than just a car to my family—it has been the setting for memories I'll always have with my kids.

My hope is that its next owner enjoys it just as much as we have and creates a lifetime of memories of their own.
