General Motors was the last of the three major American truck
manufacturers to bring a diesel option to the half-ton segment, and
when they finally did it in 2020, they did it differently than
everyone else. While Ford and Ram both used V6 diesel engines, GM
went with an inline-six, the only engine of its configuration in
the class. The result was the 3.0 liter Duramax, an engine that
produces 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, the same peak
torque figure as Chevrolet's optional 6.2 liter gas V8, but the
diesel delivers it at just 1,500 rpm where the big V8 doesn't reach
its peak until well over 4,000. This one is a single-owner example
in Summit White with the All Star Edition package and the full
trailering setup, and it presents as a clean, well-equipped truck
that has been thoughtfully spec'd from the start.
The combination of torque and efficiency is the Duramax's defining
trait. The 10-speed automatic keeps the engine in its power band at
all times whether you are towing or cruising, and the four-wheel
drive system handles whatever the road asks of it. A towing
capacity of over 9,000 pounds with the trailering package, hitch
receiver, four-pin and seven-pin connectors, and hitch guidance
lines through the rearview camera give this truck real-world
utility that backs up the numbers on paper.
Inside, the double cab layout gives you front-hinged rear doors and
a 6.5 foot cargo bed, a configuration that balances passenger room
with genuine bed space. Gideon cloth 40/20/40 split-bench seating
with 10-way power adjustment for the driver, heated driver and
front passenger seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel,
dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, remote engine
starter, rear window defogger, and 12-volt cargo bed power outlets
round out a truck that has been equipped for both comfort and work.
The infotainment display handles connectivity cleanly.
The Duramax name has been synonymous with diesel reliability and
longevity in GM trucks since its introduction in 2001 in the
heavy-duty lineup. Bringing that reputation to the half-ton market
in an inline-six configuration that no competitor matched was a
statement, and the 3.0 Duramax has largely delivered on it. A
one-owner Summit White LT with this equipment level and the diesel
drivetrain is exactly the kind of Silverado that buyers who have
been paying attention to the segment are looking for.
