There are custom builds... and then there are cars that completely
rewrite the rulebook. This 1940 Ford Coupe isn't just a restomod-it
is a one-of-one masterpiece that took thousands of hours to
engineer, fabricate, and perfect. Every inch of this build was
designed to seamlessly blend the iconic styling of a 1940 Ford with
the comfort, technology, and reliability of a modern Chevrolet
SSR.
The foundation of this incredible machine is a complete 2005
Chevrolet SSR chassis and drivetrain, giving this classic all the
benefits of modern engineering without sacrificing its timeless hot
rod attitude.
The all-steel Ford body has been extensively reworked, widened more
than six inches down the center, and chopped approximately six
inches to create an aggressive stance unlike anything else on the
road. The rear fenders have been seamlessly welded into the body,
while thousands of hours were invested in bodywork to produce
laser-straight panels and exceptional panel gaps. Every exterior
handle, molding, and unnecessary trim piece has been shaved for a
sleek, uninterrupted appearance.
The attention to detail continues with custom molded Mini Cooper
headlights integrated into the front fenders and Victory motorcycle
taillights molded into the rear, creating a design that is both
subtle and unmistakably unique. Covering it all is an incredibly
deep, show-quality dual-stage Black finish that has been
meticulously wet sanded and buffed to a mirror-like shine.
Every piece of glass is custom fabricated and tinted, utilizing
modern rubber-mounted seals that eliminate exterior moldings and
further enhance the clean, contemporary look.
Open the doors and you'll find one of the most impressive custom
interiors ever fitted into a 1940 Ford. Nearly every modern
convenience from a Chevrolet SSR has been incorporated into this
build. The dashboard, gauges, steering column, steering wheel,
center console, switches, controls, and seating all originate from
the SSR, while Twin City Upholstery handcrafted the remaining
interior using premium materials and meticulous stitching.
Luxury meets technology with power heated seats, electronic climate
control, cruise control, power windows, power locks, remote trunk
release, traction control, and a premium DVD stereo system.
Ridetech air ride controls are conveniently integrated into the
dashboard, while hidden emergency releases ensure practicality
matches innovation.
Even the trunk received the same level of craftsmanship, featuring
a fully upholstered leather interior with a removable access panel
for the Ridetech suspension components and a Cadillac-style power
cinch trunk latch.
Powering this masterpiece is a remarkably low-mileage 2005
Chevrolet SSR Gen IV LS2 6.0-liter V8 producing 400 horsepower.
Showing just 6,095 original miles, the engine remains factory stock
for proven reliability and is dressed with a custom engine cover.
The LS2 is backed by a 4L65E automatic transmission equipped with
an external transmission cooler before transferring power to the
SSR's durable 8.6-inch rear axle featuring 3.73 gears and a
five-link suspension.
Handling is every bit as impressive as the appearance. The complete
SSR independent front suspension utilizes double A-arms while
Ridetech air suspension with driver-controlled airbags at all four
corners allows the stance to be adjusted at the touch of a button.
Every wearable suspension component was replaced with brand-new
pieces sourced from the original GM supplier during the build.
Braking comes courtesy of four-wheel power disc brakes with factory
anti-lock braking, providing modern stopping performance and
confidence behind the wheel.
The original Chevrolet SSR wheels measure 19 inches in the front
and 20 inches in the rear, wrapped in Goodyear Eagle RS-A
performance tires that perfectly complement the car's aggressive
stance.
Underneath, the craftsmanship is just as impressive. The Chevrolet
SSR frame was completely disassembled, smoothed, sanded, painted,
polished, and painstakingly reassembled, making the undercarriage
as show-worthy as the exterior.
This isn't simply a custom hot rod-it is an engineering
achievement. Thousands of hours, countless custom-fabricated
components, and an uncompromising vision transformed a legendary
1940 Ford Coupe into a modern grand touring machine with the
reliability of a late-model Chevrolet. It's the kind of build that
cannot be duplicated for anywhere near the asking price and is
guaranteed to draw crowds whether it's parked at a national show or
cruising down the highway.
