The Plymouth 'Cuda occupies rarefied territory in the world of
American muscle cars, and among them, few command greater respect
than a genuine 426 Hemi four-speed example. Combining Chrysler's
legendary Street Hemi with the E-body's dramatic styling and
driver-focused character created one of the most formidable
performance cars of the muscle car era. With only 284 four-speed
Hemi 'Cudas produced for the 1970 model year, these cars represent
the pinnacle of Mopar performance and remain among the most coveted
American automobiles ever built.
Offered here is an exceptionally well-documented 1970 Plymouth
'Cuda Hemi, professionally restored and then validated by renowned
Mopar authority David Wise. Furthering the importance of this
'Cuda, is the presence of original body panels and sheet metal
throughout the car which is documented and presented with the
matching primary and secondary body stampings. This is extremely
important and rarely found with a Hemi 'Cuda. Their comprehensive
inspection confirms the presence of the original VIN tag, original
trim tags, matching-numbers 426 Hemi V8, and matching-numbers A833
four-speed transmission. The report further assigns the car an
impressive overall condition rating of 1.4, placing it among the
finest examples examined by MMC Detroit.
For the 1970 model year the Shaker hood scoop was normally finished
in black or silver. But if the car was ordered in FE5 Rallye Red,
the factory allowed the shaker hood scoop, mirrors and bumpers to
be finished in the matching body color, as seen on this example.
This would turn out to be a one year only option that would not be
duplicated in 1971 model lineup.
Built at Chrysler's Hamtramck Assembly Plant and finished in
striking FE5 Rallye Red with factory ordered and equipped paint
matching shaker hood scoop, mirrors and bumpers. The interior is
finished with black vinyl bucket seats; this Hemi 'Cuda possesses
the sort of specification enthusiasts dream of finding. The trim
tags reveal an extensive list of desirable factory equipment
including the A33 Track Pak package with Dana 60 Sure Grip rear
axle and 3.54 gearing, Rallye instrumentation, center console,
power front disc brakes, dual painted racing mirrors, hood pins,
Sports Hood, Shaker induction system, tachometer, Music Master AM
radio, Light Group, Basic Group, and elastomeric front and rear
bumpers. The result is a highly optioned example configured exactly
as a serious performance-minded buyer would have ordered it in
1970.
At its heart remains the car's matching-numbers 426 cubic inch
Street Hemi, conservatively rated at 425 horsepower and breathing
through its iconic dual four-barrel carburetors beneath the factory
Shaker hood assembly. MMC Detroit's inspection verified the
original VIN-stamped engine block along with numerous correct and
date-appropriate Hemi-specific components, including original
exhaust manifolds, intake manifold, air cleaner assembly, cooling
system components, and drivetrain hardware. Equally important, the
numbers matching A833 four-speed transmission remains in place and
is fitted with its proper Hurst pistol-grip shifter, one of the
defining features of Chrysler's ultimate muscle cars.
The underpinnings are equally impressive. The desirable A33 Track
Pak package equipped this 'Cuda with a Dana 60 rear axle, Sure Grip
differential, heavy-duty cooling system, Hemi suspension, firm ride
shocks, front sway bar, and other performance-oriented upgrades
intended to harness the immense output of the Street Hemi. MMC
Detroit's examination further confirmed the presence of the correct
Dana axle assembly, original driveshaft, original structural
components, and numerous factory-correct chassis details
throughout.
Today, this Rallye Red Hemi 'Cuda presents as an outstanding
example of one of the most celebrated muscle cars ever produced.
Combining a highly desirable color combination, four-speed
transmission, Shaker hood, Track Pak equipment, matching-numbers
drivetrain, and extensive third-party validation, it embodies
virtually every attribute sought by serious Mopar collectors.
Offers welcome and trades considered.
