Zoom Classic Cars presents this well maintained 1984 Oldsmobile
Hurst/Olds. As the muscle car era faded into the fuel-conscious
1980s, Oldsmobile and Hurst Performance reunited to produce one of
the most recognizable performance cars of the decade-the 1984
Hurst/Olds. Instantly identifiable by its distinctive styling,
chrome Super Stock wheels, functional hood scoop, rear spoiler, and
iconic Hurst Lightning Rod shifters, the Hurst/Olds kept the spirit
of Oldsmobile performance alive and has become one of the most
collectible G-body performance cars produced by General
Motors.Offered here is a very well-preserved 1984 Oldsmobile
Hurst/Olds showing 119,000 miles. Always garage kept and
mechanically maintained, this car remains in very good overall
condition and is ready to be enjoyed by its next enthusiast owner.
Power comes from the original Oldsmobile 307 cubic-inch (5.0L) High
Output V8 featuring a Rochester Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor.
Factory rated at 180 horsepower and 245 lb-ft of torque, it was
among GM's highest horsepower offerings for 1984. The engine is
paired with the rugged 200-4R four-speed automatic overdrive
transmission operated through the famous Hurst Dual-Gate "Lightning
Rod" shifter system-one of the most unique factory shifters ever
installed in a production automobile. A factory 3.73:1 rear axle
with limited-slip differential and the F41 performance suspension
package give the Hurst/Olds surprisingly spirited performance while
remaining comfortable on the highway. Only 3,500 examples were
produced for the 1984 model year, making these cars significantly
rarer than many of their G-body contemporaries. They represent the
final collaboration between Oldsmobile and Hurst Performance and
have developed a strong following among collectors who appreciate
their unmistakable styling and unique place in muscle car history.
The exterior presents very well with attractive paint that retains
an excellent shine and only minor imperfections consistent with
careful ownership. All original Hurst/Olds badging, trim, moldings,
and chrome are intact and in excellent condition, while the factory
chrome Super Stock III wheels with red outline complete the
aggressive factory appearance. Inside, the red velour bucket seat
interior remains very clean. The seats are free of rips or tears,
the center console and legendary Lightning Rod shifters operate
exactly as intended, and the dashboard, door panels, and trim all
present nicely. This Hurst/Olds is equipped with power steering,
power brakes, , tilt steering, cruise control, power antenna, rear
window defogger, intermittent wipers, tinted windows and factory
air conditioning, which will require servicing to restore proper
operation. The trunk compartment is clean and solid, complete with
the original spare tire and factory jack equipment. Underneath, the
chassis remain clean and structurally solid, showing only minimal
surface oxidation typical of a well-preserved original vehicle. It
is evident this Hurst/Olds has been carefully maintained throughout
its life. As appreciation for 1980s performance cars continues to
grow, genuine Hurst/Olds models have become harder to find,
particularly examples that have remained largely original and
properly cared for. Their limited production, unique factory
equipment, and unmistakable Lightning Rod shifters continue to
attract collectors looking for something different from the more
common Monte Carlo SS, Buick Grand National, or Pontiac Trans Am.
If you've been searching for one of the most recognizable G-body
performance cars of the 1980s, this 1984 Hurst/Olds deserves
serious consideration. It combines rarity, unmistakable styling,
excellent overall condition, and one of the coolest factory
shifters ever engineered into an American performance car. Car is
stored in Massachusetts with a clean MA title in the owner's name.
