1970 AMC AMX – 360 V8 – 4-Speed Manual – Documented Survivor
Motors Corner presents this Golden Lime 1970 AMC AMX, an increasingly collectible American muscle car and the final year of production for the true two-seat AMX.
Introduced in 1968 as AMC's answer to the Corvette, Mustang, and Camaro, the AMX stood apart from its competitors thanks to its unique two-seat configuration and short-wheelbase performance-oriented design. The 1970 model year marked the end of the standalone AMX, as the name would become a performance package on the Javelin beginning in 1971.
Powered by its 360 cubic-inch V8 and paired with what the original brochure described as an "all-synchro 4-on-the-floor with short-throw Hurst linkage," this example is a remarkably honest survivor that retains its original character.
Included with the vehicle are its original owner's manual and operating record booklet, offering a rare glimpse into the car's documented history.
With only 4,116 examples produced for 1970—roughly half the production of the previous year—the final-year AMX has become one of the most sought-after models among AMC enthusiasts and collectors.
Unlike many fully restored or heavily modified muscle cars, this AMX remains a genuine survivor, showing the authenticity and patina that collectors increasingly value.
Interior;
The interior is faithful to the original. The factory instrumentation and controls present well throughout and provide an authentic muscle car driving experience. The seats and carpets have been refurbished with the same specs as original, preserving the atmosphere AMC intended over five decades ago.
Mechanical Condition;
The 360 V8 starts easily and delivers the strong torque and unmistakable soundtrack expected from a classic American muscle car. Recently, a complete mechanical service has been performed, including routine maintenance, OEM carburetor rebuild, spark plugs change and a brake bleed.
Exterior;
The exterior remains true to its original specification and the paint is original.
A few dents and imperfections are present and consistent with an original vehicle that has been preserved rather than restored. These details serve as a testament to the car's authenticity and originality. The car is fitted with four new Hankook tires.
