Gulf Livery - Test Miles Only! Real GT40 Built by Olthoff Racing! |
510 HP Roush 427SR | Quaife ZF 5-Speed transaxle | Only 178 Test
Miles Built by Olthoff Racing! Opportunities to acquire an
authentic GT40 are exceedingly rare. Opportunities to acquire one
in virtually brand-new condition are rarer still. Offered here is
an extraordinary 1969 GT40 Mk I Continuation finished in the
legendary Gulf Racing colors, showing just 178 test miles from new.
Purchased new as the featured grand prize vehicle for the
Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix's annual fundraising event, this
remarkable GT40 remains essentially as delivered and presents as a
factory-fresh example. Many enthusiasts mistakenly assume that all
modern GT40s are replicas or kit cars. This is neither. Built by
Hi-Tech Automotive in South Africa and sold under the Superformance
banner, this GT40 is the only GT40 continuation car officially
licensed by Safir Spares, the owner of the GT40 trademark.
Constructed using the original design, tooling, and engineering
principles of the 1960s cars, approximately 85% of its components
interchange directly with original GT40s. Unlike generic replicas
or specially constructed vehicles, Superformance GT40s carry
authentic continuation chassis numbers and are eligible for
inclusion in the official GT40 Registry. To comply with U.S. import
regulations while preserving the GT40's original configuration,
each chassis arrives as a fully finished rolling car before
receiving its powertrain installation in the United States. The
result is a vehicle that remains true to the original GT40 concept
without the compromises required by modern mass-production
standards. Finished in the iconic Gulf blue and orange livery,
complete with authentic racing graphics and number six roundels
honoring the 1969 Le Mans-winning GT40, this example captures one
of the most recognizable appearances in motorsports history.
Beneath the rear clamshell sits a formidable Roush 427SR Windsor V8
equipped with Weber carburetion and producing approximately 510
horsepower. Power is transferred through a correct Quaife ZF
5-speed transaxle with aluminum bellhousing and Super Street Pro
clutch, delivering the visceral driving experience that made the
GT40 a legend. The chassis itself is a masterpiece of modern
craftsmanship, featuring more than 244 laser-cut and
precision-formed components reinforced with electro-galvanized
steel for exceptional durability and rigidity. Independent
suspension, Bilstein coil-over shocks, vented disc brakes, and
Wilwood calipers provide handling and braking performance worthy of
the car's racing pedigree. Inside, the cockpit blends historic
authenticity with subtle modern refinement. Features include a
Moto-Lita steering wheel, Smiths instrumentation, Alcantara-covered
seats accented by silver rivets, the desirable Gurney Bubble roof
section, and perhaps the most appreciated modern upgrade of
all-factory air conditioning and heat, amenities unavailable on the
original 1960s race-bred machines. Highlights:
