Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is excited to present this
exceptional 1965 Shelby Cobra Factory Five MK4, a professionally
built roadster that perfectly blends the timeless appearance of one
of the world's most legendary sports cars with modern engineering,
reliability, and performance. Finished in gorgeous 2013 GM
Switchblade Silver over a rich Black leather interior, this Factory
Five MK4 was meticulously assembled by Borderline Motorsports in
Buford, Georgia, with many of the nation's top performance
specialists contributing to its creation. With just 2530 miles on
its professionally built engine, extensive documentation, build
photos, manuals, and premium components throughout, this is far
more than a kit car-it's a carefully engineered performance machine
built to an incredibly high standard.
Power comes from an impressive MMR (Modular Motorsports Racing)
4.75-liter Ford Racing Modular Stroker V8, built around a brand-new
Ford Racing cast iron block and engineered to withstand up to 750
rear-wheel horsepower with forced induction. Although naturally
aspirated today, the engine was purpose-built with future power
upgrades in mind. Internally it features a forged 4340 steel
crankshaft, forged MMR H-beam connecting rods with ARP hardware,
forged Manley pistons, Total Seal file-fit rings, Clevite bearings,
a Ford Racing oil pump, and professional digital balancing before
final assembly. Feeding the engine is a BBK 78mm throttle body,
Ford PI intake, Trick Flow 2V aluminum cylinder heads, aggressive
Trick Flow camshafts, 47 lb Ford Racing injectors, MSD ignition,
Edelbrock 650 CFM carburetor, and long-tube side-pipe exhaust that
delivers the unmistakable Cobra soundtrack. Cooling is handled by a
large Mishimoto aluminum radiator paired with an electric fan.
Backing the potent modular V8 is a professionally rebuilt Tremec
TKO600 5-speed manual transmission, upgraded by American Trans of
Keller, Texas to handle substantial horsepower. An Exedy heavy-duty
clutch and flywheel ensure smooth engagement while providing the
durability needed for spirited driving.
Built on Factory Five's highly regarded MK4 chassis, this Cobra
delivers modern sports car handling without sacrificing classic
character. Suspension consists of adjustable Factory Five upper
control arms, Factory Five lower arms, Koni red coil-over shocks at
all four corners, and a rare adjustable Factory Five front sway bar
that is no longer available. Out back is a proven Ford 8.8-inch
solid axle featuring Yukon axles, a 3.55 limited-slip differential,
and Factory Five's desirable three-link rear suspension system.
Stopping power is equally impressive thanks to Baer front
performance brakes, Factory Five Performance rear brakes, and a
Ford Hydroboost power brake system with power steering that makes
this Cobra remarkably easy to drive despite its tremendous
performance capabilities.
The stance is absolutely perfect, sitting on classic 17-inch
Vintage Halibrand-style wheels, measuring 17x9 up front and 17x10.5
in the rear, wrapped in aggressive 245/45ZR17 front and massive
315/35ZR17 rear tires that give this Cobra the muscular appearance
enthusiasts expect.
Inside, the cockpit beautifully captures the spirit of the original
1960s Cobra while incorporating modern comfort and safety features.
Black leather bucket seats are complemented by a handsome Factory
Five wood steering wheel, full AutoMeter Pro-Comp gauges, 5-point
Simpson racing harnesses, and a professionally finished dash.
Additional thoughtful touches include electric windshield wipers
for Texas compliance, a dual-nozzle onboard fire suppression system
protecting both the engine compartment and fuel cell, a hidden
engine immobilizer kill switch, Optima Red Top battery, and an SCT
X4 programmer with three custom tunes.
Attention to detail throughout the build is exceptional. Many
factory fasteners were replaced with custom-machined hardware
rather than using the standard kit hardware, and the car includes a
comprehensive collection of Factory Five build manuals, a 2003 Ford
wiring manual, Haynes Mustang service manual, complete build
documentation, photographs of the construction process, and dyno
sheets showing approximately 342-348 rear-wheel horsepower in its
current naturally aspirated configuration.
Whether cruising local shows, carving through winding back roads,
or making appearances at Cars & Coffee, this professionally
engineered Factory Five MK4 delivers the iconic styling of the
legendary Cobra with vastly improved drivability, reliability, and
modern performance. Every component was carefully selected with
quality and future capability in mind, making this one of the most
comprehensively built Factory Five Cobras you'll encounter.
