The OBS Ford trucks have earned a following that only grows
stronger with time, and the F250 with the 7.5 liter big block is
the one serious truck buyers seek out. The OBS body style actually
outlasted its F150 sibling by a full year, with the F150 moving to
a new aerodynamic design in 1996 while the F250 and F350 held onto
the classic square body all the way through 1997. That makes a 1995
F250 a truck that still wore the original body with no apologies in
an era when the F150 had already moved on. This one is finished in
Oxford White and Blue Reef Metallic, a two-tone combination that is
as clean and classic as the OBS body deserves, with cab lights on
the roof and a spray-in bedliner ready to work.
Under the hood is the 7.5 liter 460 cubic inch big block V8 backed
by a four-speed automatic. Ford fitted the 460 with full electronic
fuel injection in 1988 and by the mid-1990s it was producing 245
horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, numbers that remained
consistent all the way through the engine's final truck production
year in 1997. It pulls from the bottom of the RPM range with
authority, tows with ease, and has earned a reputation among OBS
owners as one of the most durable gasoline big blocks Ford ever put
in a truck. Dual tanks give you serious range without stopping,
which is exactly what you want in a truck built for real work.
Inside, the grey cloth interior is clean and well equipped with
power windows, power locks, air conditioning and heat, rubber floor
mats, and a Kenwood stereo. The XLT trim brought a chrome grille,
carpeted map pockets, and a noticeably more refined interior
experience than the base XL, and this one wears that level of
equipment well.
The 460 in these trucks has developed a dedicated following among
builders and restorers, partly because of its reputation for
durability and partly because of how much performance the
aftermarket can extract from the platform with basic modifications.
But in a clean, stock configuration like this one, it is simply one
of the best gasoline tow rigs from the era, in a body style that
the market has been quietly repricing upward as good examples
become harder to find.
