Gateway Classic Cars is proud to present this 1941 Buick Super 8,
affectionately known as "Bootleg Betty." Draped in its
factory-correct Lancaster Grey (Code 565), this elegant pre-war
Buick captures the sophistication and craftsmanship that defined
America's luxury automobiles before World War II. With sweeping
front fenders, a commanding chrome grille, and timeless
proportions, Bootleg Betty is the kind of automobile that turns
heads with quiet confidence rather than flashy styling.
Introduced for the 1941 model year, the Buick Super represented the
next step in Buick's reputation for blending luxury, reliability,
and innovative engineering. At its heart was Buick's celebrated
Fireball Straight Eight engine, a powerplant renowned for its
smooth operation and effortless torque. This example retains its
248 CID Fireball Straight Eight complete with the desirable factory
dual-carburetor setup, delivering the distinctive character that
made these Buicks favorites among drivers seeking refined
performance.
Backing the Straight Eight is a 3-speed manual transmission with a
column-mounted shifter, allowing you to experience driving the way
it was intended in the early 1940s. The combination offers relaxed
cruising and an authentic connection between driver and machine
that modern vehicles simply can't replicate.
Finished with a black interior accented by deep pile black
carpeting, the cabin reflects the upscale accommodations Buick was
known for during the era. Factory fog lights and a factory search
light add period-correct styling while serving as unique
conversation pieces that help set this Super apart from the
crowd.
Over the past several years, Bootleg Betty has benefited from
thoughtful mechanical maintenance and upgrades. Recent service
includes a new battery in 2026 and a fresh oil change in 2025. In
2024, the cooling system was flushed, a new thermostat installed,
the transmission received fresh 85W-140 gear oil, the fuel pump was
professionally restored for compatibility with today's fuel, a new
gas tank sending unit was installed, and fresh wiper blades were
fitted.
Additional improvements completed in 2023 included rebuilding both
carburetors using ultrasonic cleaning, rebuilding the generator,
installing a new voltage regulator, upgrading the ignition with a
Pertronix electronic ignition, matching coil, and new spark plugs.
The brake system received a new master cylinder and fluid flush,
while the front suspension was refreshed with heavy-duty coil
springs, shocks, bushings, and a professional alignment.
Maintenance continued in 2022 with new tires, brake shoes, wheel
cylinders, repacked wheel bearings, a new fan belt, upper radiator
hose, minor exhaust service, and professional paint correction
followed by a ceramic coating. Heavy-duty rear coil springs were
installed in 2021, further contributing to the driving experience.
The factory 6-volt electrical system remains in place with a full
numbered cloth-clad wiring harness, complemented by upgraded
heavy-duty battery cables connected directly to the block and
frame.
Whether displayed at a concours event, driven to weekend cruises,
or simply admired in the garage, Bootleg Betty represents a
wonderful opportunity to own a distinguished piece of Buick
history. Combining elegant styling, the legendary Fireball Straight
Eight, and years of documented maintenance, this 1941 Buick Super 8
is ready for its next caretaker to continue its remarkable
story.
