INTRODUCTION: Only 598 Buick Gran Sport convertibles were equipped
with a 4-speed in 1965! This rare example also is #s matching and
has great features. What really separates it from most other muscle
cars whether it's a 65 GTO or Chevelle is the quality!
EXTERIOR: The fit and finish on this Buick is truly among the best
you'll find anywhere. The body is absolutely laser straight with
precise fitting panels and no rust, damage, or issues. Repainted
its original Flame Red color, the finish is polished to a glass
like shine and arguably looks better than it did when it left the
factory in 1965. All of the chrome and trim is exceptional. The
bumpers are show quality, the stainless trim is polished bright,
and it features dual Tri-Shield mirrors. The weatherstrips and
seals have been replaced, along with the windshield. The black
power convertible top is in excellent condition and fits
beautifully. Completing the look is a set of 15-inch Buick chrome
wheels wrapped in radial redline tires, giving the car a proud,
muscular stance.
INTERIOR: It is every bit as impressive as the exterior. The
upholstery fits beautifully without a wrinkle, the cushions are
firm, and the seats have been professionally reupholstered. The
door panels, armrests, and interior trim are all fresh and in
excellent condition. A rare center console separates the bucket
seats and down on the floor is the optional consolette with the
4-speed shifter, complemented by a tachometer and gauges. The
carpets have been replaced and are protected by GS floor mats. The
dash area is exceptionally well preserved, featuring a padded dash,
factory AM radio, tilt column, and a handsome walnut steering
wheel. Power windows add convenience, and all the interior lights
are functioning properly.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Power comes from the original numbers matching
401 Nailhead V8, factory rated at 325 horsepower and an impressive
445 lb-ft of torque. The engine compartment is exceptionally well
detailed and presents beautifully. It is equipped with the correct
air cleaner, valve covers, and factory style components right down
to the cloth wrapped choke tube. For improved drivability and
safety, it features power steering and an upgraded dual reservoir
power brake system. The cooling system is fresh and proper,
including the correct radiator, shroud, and fan assembly. The
entire compartment is extremely tidy, with smooth, painted metal
surfaces throughout. The original trim tag remains attached, and
the battery is properly secured and fitted with a disconnect
switch.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It is finished to the same high standards as the
rest of the car. Under the trunk lid and in the jamb, the Flame Red
paint is polished smooth and glossy. Inside, the metal is clean and
protected with a neatly applied spatter finish. The weatherstrip
has been replaced, and the trunk is equipped with a reproduction
mat and tire cover. It is complete with the spare tire and jack
assembly, and it also includes the optional Buick rubber trunk mat,
a seldom seen feature.
UNDERSIDE: The body off frame restoration was done to a very high
standard, and the underside has the appearance of a freshly
restored new car. The floors are absolutely spotless, clean metal,
while the frame and chassis components are beautifully detailed in
a semi-gloss black finish. It is equipped with the GS suspension
package, including stiffer springs, boxed rear control arms, and
front and rear sway bars. The steering and suspension systems have
been completely gone through, and the brake system has been
serviced and upgraded with front disc brakes. The emergency brake
assembly is complete and hooked up. The fuel system has been
replaced, including the gas tank, and a great sounding dual exhaust
with Flowmaster mufflers runs neatly from front to back. Looking up
at the drivetrain, everything is exceptionally clean. The original
date correct T10 4-speed manual transmission presents fresh, along
with a restored driveshaft leading back to the 10-bolt rear end
equipped with 3.23 posi gears. Everywhere you look, the workmanship
and attention to detail are evident, making this an underside
you'll be proud to show off on any lift.
SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and our reputation. Every
vehicle goes through our service department where it is inspected,
test driven, and we address the essentials before offering it for
sale.
CONCLUSION: You can search the country and even if you were to find
another 1965 Gran Sport convertible with a 4-speed, but finding one
restored and presented to this standard is another matter entirely.
In today's market, it could easily cost two times our asking price
to purchase and restore a collector car to this level. This Buick
is far more than a rare muscle car- it's an opportunity to own one
of the finest examples available anywhere.
