The 1970 Plymouth Barracuda represents the single most significant
year in the model's entire production history, and arguably one of
the most important model years in the entire history of American
muscle cars. Plymouth moved the Barracuda to the all-new E-body
platform for 1970, giving it a long-hood short-deck silhouette, a
dramatically lower stance, and a presence that stopped people on
the street in a way that nothing Plymouth had built before it could
manage. This one is finished in red with a black hood and black
rear spoiler, wearing the body the way it was always meant to be
worn, and it has been rebuilt from the ground up into something
that uses that iconic shape as the foundation for a purpose-built
street and track machine. Only 500 miles have been put on the
build.
Under the hood is a complete 408 cubic inch small block stroker
built by Proformance Engines, producing 545 horsepower and 565
pound-feet of torque. The build includes all new parts throughout,
with the engine backed by a T56 six speed manual transmission
sourced from American Powertrain. A Be Cool radiator with
electronic fans, Vintage Air climate control, and a complete
American AutoWire rewiring kit mean this car has been rebuilt
electrically and mechanically from one end to the other. A new gas
tank and full wiring harness round out a drivetrain that has been
sorted properly, not pieced together.
The chassis underneath has received the same level of attention.
Reilly Motorsports complete coilover suspension with the AlterKtion
front end and Street-Lynx rear setup, Wilwood 11.25 inch
four-piston disc brakes front and rear with hydro boost, welded
torque boxes and chassis bracing for extra rigidity, and a
hydraulic e-brake round out a car that handles and stops with the
same authority it accelerates. The roll cage and harnesses are
certified through 2027. The battery has been relocated to the trunk
for better weight distribution.
Inside, the black leather interior is clean and purposeful.
Autometer carbon fiber gauges give you a real-time read on
everything the engine is doing, and the cockpit has been set up
around the driving experience first and foremost. The 1970
Barracuda's E-body shape is one of the most sought-after in the
entire American muscle car world, with the most desirable examples
commanding prices that rival any other classic American performance
car. A properly built red example with 500 miles on a full
ground-up build, certified safety equipment, and the documentation
to back it all up is exactly what serious buyers are looking
for.
