Real code 138 SS with L34 396/350 horsepower engine and 4-speed.
Beautiful restoration. Working factory A/C, power steering, power
disc brakes. Nicely documented. A gorgeous Chevelle that does
everything well!If you glanced at the trim tag, you already know
this car was Granada Gold with a vinyl top when it was new. But
when it was restored, it was treated to a bare-metal respray in
sinister Tuxedo Black and the vinyl top was removed. The results
speak for themselves: this car is simply stunning. You'll also be
happy to learn that this one is wearing all its original sheetmetal
and that it comes from the warm, dry southern US (built in Atlanta
and sold by Roger Dean Cevrolet in West Palm Beach, FL). The
quarters are laser-straight and reflections are undistorted, gaps
are precise all around, and the doors close easily but firmly,
which is due to new hinges and fresh weather seals throughout. The
only notable demerits are a few blemishes on the hood that could be
easily rectified without a major investment--they're not very
noticeable. Nothing else on the car was shaved or modified, so all
the factory trim was polished and reinstalled or replaced with
correct parts, and while it does wear 'Super Sport' badging, the
overall effect is quite subtle. This is the proverbial iron fist in
a silk glove. The interior is a fantastic mix of sport and luxury,
which is the line that the Chevelle straddles. Bucket seats
flanking a console with a built-in clock are all about the sport,
especially with that big chrome 4-speed shifter. But for luxury,
this car offers working factory A/C, a wood-rimmed wheel, and
plenty of sound-deadening, so it feels solid and rides quietly down
the road. Fresh carpets, reproduction door panels, a new dash pad,
and a new headliner all make it feel like new inside. All the
gauges work properly, the wipers wipe, the lights and signals are
functional, and even the original AM radio pulls in stations loud
and clear. The trunk is neatly outfitted with a correct mat, jack
assembly, and a matching Rally wheel with a new radial tire. This
predator is nothing but a pretty face if you don't have the
horsepower to back it up, and this one delivers. It's a NOM 396
with a CLB suffix code suggesting it came from a slightly newer
car. It was rebuilt to L34 specs and runs superbly. It starts
easily, idles smoothly, and pulls through the gears with genuine
authority. For the most part, it looks correct with a chrome air
cleaner up top, along with matching valve covers, and Chevy Orange
paint on the block. There's an Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake
manifold and a big 4-barrel carb on top, while a set of factory
exhaust manifolds handle the exhaust. It's quite happy on pump gas
and thanks to a fat torque curve, it's just a joy to drive on the
street. Experts will spot that this car has rather rare power front
disc brakes, which were on the car when it was new, so at least our
original owner knew that stopping was as important as going. The
Muncie 4-speed manual transmission includes a new clutch and
pressure plate for easy clutch action. Out back there's a
bulletproof 12-bolt rear end with 3.08 gears so the car is a
relaxed cruiser and that big 396 doesn't mind the tallish gears one
bit. The exhaust system is a custom fabricated setup with stainless
steel mufflers, used because the restorer preferred the sound (and
it does indeed sound pretty nasty), but it stays discreetly tucked
out of sight with simple turn downs under the rear bumper. Please
take some time to note just how immaculate the floors are and yes,
those are original pans, not replacements. Everything under the car
was treated to more semi-gloss black paint for a beautiful backdrop
to the other hardware and while it shows a few minor signs of use,
most could be erased with an afternoon of cleaning. New springs and
shocks make it ride right and it sits on correct 14-inch Rally
wheels with GR70-14 Firestone redline tires for the perfect
stance.Documentation includes the original purchase invoice and
some service receipts.Quality matters. There are cheaper Chevelles
out there. But in this business you always get what you pay for. If
you want one with spectacular bodywork, plenty of power, a handsome
interior, and a big investment of cash behind it, this is an
excellent example. It holds up under close scrutiny, which is
something most muscle cars can't do, and if you're a fan of the
Bowtie, you know this is an apex predator from the glory years of
performance. Call today!Harwood Motors always recommends and
