story Few muscle cars come with a story as compelling as this 1971
Dodge Challenger R/T. Finished in its iconic Sassy Grass Green
paint and equipped with the desirable 340ci V8 and 4-speed manual
transmission, this Challenger represents both Mopar performance and
a decades-long pursuit by a passionate enthusiast. The story began
in 1979 at the World of Wheels show in Fargo, North Dakota. At just
16 years old, the current owner attempted to purchase this very car
from its original owner. At the time, the Challenger was in
exceptional condition with only 21,000 original miles. The asking
price was $3,900, but despite having $3,600 cash in hand, a deal
could not be reached. For years, the owner followed the car's
whereabouts before eventually losing track of it in 1987. After
moving north, the search continued. In 1994, the Challenger was
rediscovered in a garage in East Grand Forks, Minnesota.
Remarkably, it remained in outstanding condition and had
accumulated only 89,000 miles. The owner once again attempted to
purchase the car, but the opportunity would have to wait. The
Challenger remained with its longtime caretaker until 2008.
Following the owner's passing, the car was eventually acquired by
another enthusiast from the Twin Cities area. Then, in 2015, fate
intervened. A phone call came asking if there was interest in
purchasing a green 1971 Dodge Challenger. Within moments, it became
clear this was the very same car first pursued more than three
decades earlier. Matching memories, details, and history confirmed
its identity, bringing an end to a 36-year search. Today, this 1971
Dodge Challenger R/T stands as more than just a highly desirable
Mopar muscle car. It is a documented piece of automotive history
with an incredible ownership story spanning generations. Finished
in one of the most recognizable High Impact Mopar colors and backed
by a remarkable tale of persistence, this Challenger represents the
dream every collector hopes to finda legendary muscle car that
finally found its way home.
