This 1942 Ford Super Deluxe Woodie was one of the very last produced before civilian production ceased on February 10, 1942, and one of very few produced for a very important role. It lived the first few years of its life at the US Navy base in Presque Isle, Maine, used as effectively a station car, transporting pilots to their aircraft as they prepared to cross the Atlantic. Past records show it was sold to a Virginia-based owner who started a restoration in the 90s, with the engine rebuild and body/woodwork being completed at this time. This resto eventually stalled before the car was purchased by a Massachusetts-based individual in 2008 who saw the restoration through to completion, going on to win an AACA First Prize award in 2012. Most recently owned by the owner of an antique war-bird museum, this Woodie is a complete and well-maintained older restoration, a driver ready to be shown and enjoyed. The car is accompanied by extra parts, several photographs and receipts documenting its cosmetic and mechanical restoration, as well as framed examples of its original wood exterior door skins with official US Navy markings. Passersby always react overwhelmingly positively to a Ford Woodie, but only the cognoscenti will spot its rarity thanks to the unique-to-1942 front end treatment. This is a wonderful opportunity to own a beautiful and rare piece of American history.
