This 1971 240Z was owned by a CPA in San Antonio, Tx for 42 years. Between 2021 and 2023 he commissioned a complete nut and bolt restoration by a professional shop, specializing in classic cars. Under his ownership the car was red but upon stripping the paint it was discovered that the original color was 901 silver. The metal was in good shape due to dry Texas climate but any metal repairs were done appropriately without filler. The restorer was meticulous. Every component was either stripped and repainted, rechromed or replaced. He also added a new Vintage Air A/C unit. The work done exceeded $50,000 over and above the value of the car. He had replaced the original engine and transmission with rebuilt units 10,000 miles before the restoration. The work done at the time of restoration and further work done over the past year is listed in the photo.
This Z starts easily, even after sitting a while, runs perfectly with tight steering and good brakes. All gauges work and there is good oil pressure and no overheating. The engine sounds great and there is no smoke. Shifting is precise with no grinding or other concerns. To my eye the paint is nearly perfect. There is no radio as the Vintage Air controls use this space on the console.
There are a few things I have found are less than perfect. The horn works but is not very loud. The gauge lights work but not as bright as I might expect. The headliner, although new, has some wrinkling (this work was outsourced to another shop). I have video of cold start and engine running along with exhaust pipe with engine running as well. Overall, this is one of the nicest 240Zs I have seen. The recent restoration was comprehensive and well done. The car is attractive and a pleasure to drive. Although I love the car I need to sell some of my collection.
