The 1996 Corvette Collector Edition was built to celebrate the final year of C4 Corvette production, ending a C4 generation that ran from 1984 through 1996. Chevrolet produced 5,412 Collector Editions, including 4,031 coupes and 1,381 convertibles. Every Collector Edition came finished in Sebring Silver Metallic, featured special Collector Edition emblems, silver-painted 5-spoke wheels, Collectors embroidered sport seats, and unique trim pieces that set it apart from a standard Corvette. The Collector Edition package cost $1,250, orders exceeded factory capactiy,and became an instant collector favorite because it marked the end of the C4 era.
What makes the 1996 Collector Edition valuable and special today is that it was offered for one year and is considered one of the most desirable engines of the entire C4 generation. According to Corvette production records, only 224 Collector Edition coupes were built with a black interior, making them far less common than the overall production numbers. The majority of Collector's Edition's were ordered with gray interior, so black is rare! The combination of the final-year C4 styling, Sebring Silver paint, LT1 high performance motor, and the limited production continues to make the 1996 Collector Edition one of the most collectible Corvettes of the 1990s.
