Among collectors who follow the C6 generation closely, 2008 is
widely regarded as the sweet spot. It was the first year Chevrolet
swapped out the LS2 for the new 6.2 liter LS3, a 30 horsepower jump
that brought the base Corvette to 430 horsepower and 424 pound-feet
of torque, along with cylinder head and intake port improvements
borrowed from the higher-spec engines above it in the lineup.
Variable ratio power steering was also introduced that year,
improving both high-speed stability and steering feel in a
meaningful way. This one is finished in Jetstream Blue Metallic
with chrome spoked wheels, and it has been kept in a way that shows
genuine pride of ownership throughout.
Under the hood the LS3 backs up every bit of the reputation it
earned. The six speed automatic with paddle shifters was
recalibrated for 2008 to respond more quickly and decisively than
the version it replaced, and it suits the character of this car
well. The 2008 C6 could hit 60 miles per hour in under four seconds
and pull more than one full G of cornering grip, numbers that were
putting it in company with European sports cars costing
considerably more.
Inside, the black leather cabin has been given several
personalizing details that set it apart. The center console has
been replaced with a stitched logo version, a carbon fiber center
console adds a purposeful, premium look, and chrome upgraded caps
in the engine bay extend the attention to detail under the hood as
well. A trunk cover with the Vette logo, chrome outline covers on
the taillights, and a cover bag round out a car that has been cared
for and appreciated at every step. The plastic is still on the
passenger carpet, which tells you everything you need to know about
how this Corvette has been treated.
The C6 was the first Corvette since 1962 to feature exposed
headlights, a design choice that gave it a cleaner, more
contemporary look that has aged better than almost any American car
of its era. A Jetstream Blue 2008 with the LS3, the automatic,
chrome wheels, and this level of care throughout is exactly what
the C6 collector market is paying attention to as this generation
matures.
