The second-generation Trans Am has become one of the most
recognizable American performance cars ever built, and few years
capture the spirit of the late 1970s muscle era quite like 1978.
Fresh off Pontiac's dominant racing presence and riding a wave of
pop culture fame, the Trans Am became the car enthusiasts wanted
parked in their driveway. Today, finding one transformed to this
level is a rare opportunity.
Under the shaker sits a Chevrolet Performance 525-horsepower 6.2L
LS3 V8 backed by a 6-speed manual transmission, creating the kind
of power-to-weight combination Pontiac engineers could only dream
about in 1978. A custom TA 6.6R shaker keeps the factory attitude
intact while the modern LS platform delivers instant throttle
response, reliability, and serious street performance. Supporting
hardware includes a serpentine belt system, DeWitts aluminum
radiator with dual electric fans, and Vintage Air heat and A/C for
comfortable cruising in any season.
The chassis has been completely reimagined with performance in
mind. A UMI suspension system featuring tubular control arms,
coilovers, front and rear sway bars, subframe connectors, and a
4-link rear suspension gives this F-body handling characteristics
far beyond its original design. Powerstop four-wheel disc brakes
with drilled and slotted rotors bring everything to a confident
stop, while BC Forged 18-inch wheels complete the aggressive
stance.
Inside, the full custom tan interior blends classic Trans Am
styling with modern technology. Dakota Digital VHX gauges keep tabs
on the drivetrain, while power windows, a center console, and an
upgraded sound system with subwoofer and amplifier provide modern
comfort and entertainment. Glass T-tops add the open-air experience
that made these cars legendary.
Finished in gold with unmistakable Firebird attitude, this Trans Am
combines iconic styling, modern horsepower, and a thoroughly
upgraded suspension package into one impressive package. It
delivers the look of a late-70s legend with the performance of a
contemporary muscle machine, making it equally at home on the
highway, at a car show, or carving up a winding back road.
