Built in part to celebrate Ford's 100th birthday
Ford began the new millennium with a bang. With the announcement of
their GT40 concept car at the North American International Auto
Show, the heritage-based supercar design produced public
anticipation that was nothing short of staggering. Pulling from the
design language from their Le Mans-winning Ford GT40s, Ford was
able to place their modern supercar into production and became one
of the most powerful Ford vehicles offered. Sleek, powerful, and
fast, its timeless design was undeniably linked to the 4-time
winners of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Even to this day, the Ford GT
is still regarded as one of the best modern interpretations of a
historic race car for the road.
The Ford GT took numerous design elements from the original race
cars, such as the headlights, the swooping rear clamshell, the
motorsports-inspired seats and a simple yet-elegant 6-speed
shifter. The dash is centered around the driver, recreating the
almost cockpit-like experience of the original Le Mans racers. The
supercharger is clearly visible in the rear-view mirror with the
entire 550 horsepower engine directly behind the seats, giving both
the driver and passenger a taste of what driving a real GT40 might
have felt like.
This 2005 Ford GT was spec'd in Mark IV Red with a black leather
interior, and optioned with all 4 Ford factory options: McIntosh
audio system, BBS alloy wheels, over-body racing stripes, and red
brake calipers. It was ordered by Brenegen Ford Mercury of Sparta,
Wisconsin and was sold to its 1st and only caretaker on November
11th, 2005. The caretaker kept the car in a climate-controlled
garage for their entire ownership, enjoying the car occasionally
and having all factory bulletins performed. After a little more
than 20 years with the Ford GT, the odometer read just 4,711
miles.
When the GT arrived at Canepa, the supercar was inspected from
front to back. With only 4,711 miles since its original delivery,
seeing the Ford GT in person was the true confirmation of its
originality. The GT was put through the "Canepa Difference"
process, giving it a thorough mechanical and cosmetic inspection.
The paint finish is in like-new condition and looks as if the car
was just shipped from Ford, and received full detail including a
light foam pad polish of the Mark IV Red paint. The interior is
nothing short of fantastic, showing little to no wear throughout
the motorsports-inspired cabin. With the 5.4-liter supercharged V8
engine and the rest of the mechanicals inspected and in excellent
condition, this 2005 Ford GT is a prime example of the brand. With
only 4,711 miles since new, this is the special opportunity for a
lucky new owner to experience what owning a new Ford GT might have
been like.
