interior, this Thunderbird has been meticulously cared for by the
same owner since 1981 and remains an exceptional example of Ford's
personal luxury convertible. Power comes from a rebuilt 428 cubic
inch V8 that was installed in 1990 from another 1966 Thunderbird,
replacing the original 390 V8, and is paired with the original C6
3-speed automatic transmission that was professionally rebuilt in
2018 at 90,200 miles. This Thunderbird features matching casting
numbers, an estimated 10,000 miles on the restoration, Petronix
ignition, factory functioning air conditioning converted to R134a
refrigerant in 2012 using original components, power windows, power
driver and passenger seats, upgraded leather upholstery and
carpeting, power antenna, modernized AM/FM transistorized radio,
quartz clock, passenger recliner with headrest, Sport Roadster
tonneau cover modified to provide an additional 3.5 inches of front
seat travel, deluxe hubcaps, original black vinyl power convertible
top, halogen headlights, rebuilt rear axle completed in 2021 at
90,938 miles with new seals, bearings and mounting pads, fresh
battery installed in 2023, and a fully rebuilt suspension featuring
new ball joints, tie rods, bushings, rear spring pads, shackles and
bushings. The transmission mount has also been replaced with a

The 1966 Ford Thunderbird represented the final year of the
fourth-generation Thunderbird, a design often praised for its sleek
styling, aircraft-inspired details, and luxurious appointments.
Ford positioned the Thunderbird as a personal luxury car, blending
performance, comfort, and innovative features into a package that
appealed to buyers seeking something more refined than a
traditional muscle car. Available in several body styles, including
the highly desirable convertible, the 1966 Thunderbird offered
powerful V8 engine options, advanced convenience features, and
distinctive styling cues that helped cement its place as one of the
most iconic American luxury cars of the 1960s. Today,
well-maintained examples such as this remain highly sought after by
collectors for their combination of elegant design, smooth
performance, and exceptional road presence.
