This Southern California 356A T2 Speedster is finished in a
desirable Black with Red upholstery color combination, with a
matching engine and transmission confirmed by its Porsche
Certificate of Authenticity. Imported by Hoffman Motors of New
York, equipped from the factory with sealed beam headlights, coupe
seats, and U.S. overrider bumpers. The open-air character made the
Speedster one of Porsche's most celebrated models.
The paintwork reflects an older restoration with excellent gaps,
panel fit, and patina. The deck lids match and retain the "549"
stampings; the interior features a Nardi wooden steering wheel, VDO
instrumentation, and a courtesy lamp under the dash. The front
trunk compartment retains a date-coded fuel tank and sending unit.
Date-coded KPZ 4.5 x 15 painted wheels are mounted to Vredestein
Classic 165 HR15 tires. The undercarriage is well preserved, in
original condition, and solid and rust-free. A new black canvas
soft top and boot cover were recently upholstered, and it also
comes with the original red vinyl boot cover, full black tonneau
cover, and side curtains.
Powered by its matching driveline, a 1600cc flat-four engine paired
with a manual 4-speed transmission (type 644), and four-wheel drum
brakes. European Collectibles did a full mechanical recommission
focused on reliability and drivability while preserving its overall
originality. The service work included a complete brake system
rebuild, replacement of the fuel hoses, installation of a fuel
filter, new spark plugs, and a speedometer cable. Fresh fluids were
added to the transmission and engine, along with a valve
adjustment, an oil filter change, replacement of the fuel sending
unit, and an engine tune. The compression test readings were 110,
120, 110, and 110 psi across the four cylinders.
Complete with a toolkit, jack, original key, spare wheel, a copy of
the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a Porsche Kardex. This
numbers-matching Speedster offers a compelling opportunity to
acquire a very desirable, rare 1958 T2 Speedster in exceptional
mechanical condition, ready to enjoy.
